LizeP, I agree with you that is best to watch new stories together especially the first few times. They often have questions and it is a great oppurtunity to turn a very "unstimulating activity" into something that could be educational.
Blompotjie, I was untill recently a bit reckless with what I showed my LG. My husband is an animator therefore he was very excited to show her all the Disney animated classics. We showed her things like Beauty and the beast, Lion king, Tangled. She then started getting really worried about things that she saw in the movies and were talking about it regularly. There is one scene in sleeping beauty where cinderalles dress gets torn. She still goes in a panic about someone who will tear her pretty dress or clothes that she wears! Anyway, I think she is defnitely a sensitive soul like me.
Once I started reading the reviews on "commonsens.org" I realised the importance to do your research about what you show your child.
For instance, they recomend Rango only at age 9!
check it out

and Tangled age 5,

and The Lion King age 6,

and Bambi age 5,

(Many adults today will remember the traumatic scene where Bambi's mother get shot right infront of Bambi's eyes!)
I know this website is just group of people's opinion, but I have really agreed with their reviews.
Since I have done my research especially the effects of violence (even in childrens stories) I have decided to lay off a bit on stories with violence. Funny enough she is okay with 2 dinosaurs ripping each other apart!!! Weird.
