Grommets

Tazzy my daughter got grommets 16 months ago and they are still in.
Paed and GP confirmed this very recently. GP said they're in but wont be working any more however she did have a leaking ear around the time she'd had grommets for a year, so they're definitely still working. We were just given ear drops for grommets and it cleared up.
She also had repeat ear infections between 9months and 12 months, and since the grommets not a day's worry. She is now 28 months old!

I haven't seen logan's yet as they're still in his ears as far as i know.
But i remember as a kid my cousin had grommets and they kept falling out and i remember seeing them. They are very tiny tubes, but definitely visible to the naked eye, though they could easily fall out without you noticing them.
Logan's ENT said they usually take 6-12 months to fall out (i think 6 is more average), but some kids' never fall out and others' fall out sooner.

Claire, Maybe just give your ENT a call. My Lg had grommets out in about 6months ago and I havent noticed any drainage from her ears. My ENT just said not to get any soapy water in her ears, so we block her ears well when washing her hair.

Apparently they make their way out of the ears after 6 months. Has anybody comes across their LOs grommets? I know they are minute, ut Im just curious

As Huggles says, the leaking is a 'good' think in the sense that it kstops infections.
But continued leaking seems stranger than normal.
I think your ENT would be able to help you telephonically if its an easy yes or no answer and then determine whether its worth spending the money to see him or not (before just going possibly for 'nothing')

I would also recommend taking her back to the ENT just to be sure.

Logan also got grommets in October and we haven't had any leakage other than the first day when all the 'glue' that had been clogging his ears came out.

BUT, that being said, don't stress too much about it either - my cousin's son had horribly leaky ears for a while, even without grommets, and the doctor said they were fine, it was actually good because the fluid was coming out rather than staying in and causing infection. So it might be a good thing that your daughter's ears are leaking - might mean the grommets are doing their job well. But i would still recommend taking her to the ENT just to be sure.

Hi Claire, my daughter's grommets never leaked. Maybe check with the ENT just to be on the safe side especially since she is rubbing her ears also. Good luck, let us know!

Hi ladies.

HK went in for grommets round about the end of Oct. All went well and 2 weeks later she went for her check up and was given the all clear...

However a day or two late, her grommets started "leaking"which apparently is what they are meant to do... but I took her to the GP anyway, and she said that HK had the start of an ear infection. Antibiotics...

The infection went away (as the leakage changed from dark green to a light yellow colour)... dr says light yellow colour is fine. But she has had leakage ever since and rubs her ears a few times a day.

Is it normal for grommets to leak this much or could it be teething related?

Help would be appreciated!
