Hope all goes well tomorrow.

For me personally the quality of the care is more important than the language of the school.

Hi Shonna,

A child can learn a second language from 3 years old with no problems. By then the first language is set as the strongest language (granted that it is the language both parents use). I would suggest you continue speaking to him in your mother tongue. He will pick up on the afrikaans on his own time.

My little girl joined an english school when she was 3 years old and we are afrikaans.
It took her about 7 months to start speaking english. We speak to her in afrikaans at home.

Maybe at first he might be a bit "disorientated" by not understanding the language but I doubt that he will suffer emotional development issues. My LG is much happier in this school (english) school that she ever was in her previous afrikaans school.

This is just my experience from what I have researched.

Hi Ladies,

Hope you are all well and happy new you to all!

Wonder if you ladies can give me some advice...

Blake will be 3 in march...

And i think its time he went creche and well the nanny is preggies and is due in march...

I live in a small town and there are no English creches here.

The first on i went to wouldn't accept him cause he wasn't fully potty trained and the refused point blank to speak any English to him what so ever.

Now i have found another one and the lady says she helps the english kiddies.

We have been talking to him in afrikaans more and more to help him.

Should i be worried?
will he withdraw?

thanks ladies....
