That website suggests using Apple Cider Vinegar as a treatment.

You mention that you read somewhere about needing to treat it internally. One of the sites I came across when googling the other day was this one: www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=266
It's a guy that was taking Cider Vinegar tablets to dissolve gallstones and he noticed it cleared up his nail fungus at the same time.
I've never heard of cider vinegar tablets though but might be worth looking into, or even trying to get her to drink a little apple cider vinegar daily.

Thank you Huggles

The tea tree oil did not work last time. We still have leftover so it's worth trying again. I have not heard of using coconut oil, will give that a go.

I did read somewhere a fungal infection needs to be taken care of internally or something, I forgot the exact words or where I read it. It is really a frustration since she has had it most of her life and the medicine does not seem to work.

Shame, sounds like you've really been struggling with this for a long time!

My initial thought was that you should try Tea Tree Oil, but I see you already did that. Did it seem to help at all?

I did a quick google for home remedies and found these two sites that offer helpful suggestions:
voices.yahoo.com/5-home-remedies-nail-fu...11973353.html?cat=68
www.toenailfungustreatment.info/most-popular-home-treatments/

I think the second one actually sounds better personally.

Maybe try tea tree oil again, without the vinegar this time, just drop some tea tree oil onto the nail and maybe massage it in, and then add some coconut oil which will help to moisturise the area, but also contains anti-fungal properties.

I really hope this problem resolves itself soon.

Hi Mommies

Anyone ever had to deal with fungal nail infections? Especially in babies/toddlers?

My little girl picked one up before her first birthday. First pead prescribed microcidal which made her nail crumble away. She was on it for about 5 months. The nail grew back when we stopped the medication (she got eczema). Infection spread to a second nail. In this time we tried vinegar and tea tree oil.

At her 18 month check up at a different pead, she got prescribed diflucan. It cleared up the second nail beautifully. The original nail looked ok, still thick and finger slightly swollen.

At 2 year check up the pead decided she should go on diflucan again. Now the nail looks bad again :(
