Thanks Tanya!

I am with you, I am reluctant to take her out, as she really seems to enjoy playschool. We will continue with the immune support meds and hopefully she starts building up immunity soon.

My lg has bad allergies and a low immune system so thats also why she catches whatever is gng around. We have had all the tests done etc etc lol. The pead told us to just put our heads down and get thru it day by day. She has been a bit better since about 13 months. She still gets sick but nothing that warrants a doc visit. She is on a lot of allergy meds so i guess that also helps.

I think at the end of the day, its up to u with regards to if u want to keep her at home or still just stick it out at school

Personally, my daughter loves her friends and school, so I just feel she would lose her spark if I had to keep her home as she is the only child

Thanks Tanya S and Zaza.

Zaza, fortunately it is the first time she got an ear infection, so probably not at the grommets stage yet. But i will definitely keep this in mind for future reference.

If I understand you correctly then, the advise is to keep her in school and just ride this out. At what point did your little ones start showing some resistance to all the illnesses? I am not too sure I can do this every single week. Fridays and weekends are spend nursing kids back to health and then we are back to square on by Wednesday or Thursday. :headbang:

Dear Karmie

It is quiet normal, but you mentioned ear infections and fever. I had this when my LG was under 2, and even though she was on crèche guard and pro-biotics, she kept getting the ear infection which affected her tonsils which gave her the high fever.

We took her to the ENT, he put in grommets and melted her adenoids at 13 months, she was fit as a fiddle within the hour after the procedure, and I continued with crèche guard, and she stopped with the weekly ear, throat and fever nonsense.

ENT told us you will either have a ENT baby or a chesty baby, so once you figure out which one, then you can target the approach. Not sure if you would like to explore this avenue, but grommets made a world of diff to my LG when she had this re-occurring problem.

All the best with your decision.

Hi fellow moms

I am at my wit's end. My 2 year old LG started playschool in September this year. She is going to a good playschool (or so I thought). There are 10-12 kiddies in her class with a teacher an assistant. So about 1 caregiver for 5/6 kiddies.

However, she has not been able to spend one full week at playschool without getting sick. The longest continuous stretch she has been at school was 4 days in a week. Her 9 month old sister (still at home) also then gets sick. We ended up in the emergency room this weekend with ear infections and fevers over 40 degrees. I am exhausted.

Is it just me, or do other parents have their kids come to school with snotty noses touching everything just to make other kids sick? What are your school’s policy on illnesses? I know it is not easy for people to keep their kids at home, I am a working mom too. But where do you draw the line?

The school's response is they monitor the child and call parents if it's bad.

What do I ask the school, can they keep sick kids separate, can they practice more hygiene, can they have a stricter sick policy? What do I do? How big of fuss can I make, or is this the norm and should this just be something we must live with and all kids go through when starting playschool?

Or should I take her out of school? I am getting some pressure from family to do that. I have this option, as we are fortunate in that we have an au pair/daymother who comes to our house to look after the baby, and who fetches my oldest LG from playschool at around 12. So she looks after both of them as well until 4:30pm, and the whole day when oldest is sick from school. But, the thing is she seems to enjoy school, it is good for her developmentally. Also my 9 month old then gets some one-on-one interaction in the mornings which is good for her as well. Youngest LG is such an easy baby, she just take a backseat to my older LG. So this alone time is good for my youngest development as well.

I do give both of them crèche-guard, and will start them on probiotics as well. 60% of baby’s milk intake is breastmilk.

Sorry for the long post and rant, but I am fresh out of ideas. Any feedback or thoughts you may have on dealing with the playschool, keeping LG in school vs taking her out and additional meds I can give to them will be appreciated.
