Anxious, Moving & Creche Southern Subs Cape Town

The traffic is quite hectic, but at least I have flexibility and can structure my work day around it. I start work around 6:30 am and leave work at around 3:30 pm. Early start, and kids still asleep when I leave, but at least it means I get to spend a good block of time with kids from around 4pm till bedtime.

Glad you found a solution!

Is it not a hectic commute to the southern suburbs? I have no patience with traffic!!

We did not find a suitable playschool, but after much deliberation, we decided to stay put in the Northern Suburbs, Loevenstein area, so not far from you actually!

We instead hired an au pair on a half day basis, so she will fetch kids from school and care for them till we arrive home from work. Which, in hindsight, is probably a much easier solution than moving and finding new schools

I can't offer much assistance but can understand your worries. I haven't lived in southern suburbs or no anyone there either.

We moved to Panorama from century city, and I thought changing schools would be too much of a change on my 4 yr old (along with a new baby), so we travelled every day. It eventually became too taxing on all of us, and I finally got her into a school (mainly Afrikaans) here. (We speak English, she was at an English school, and the only Afrikaans she has heard is when I speak to hubby in Afrikaans so she can't understand! Lol).
It's only been a week, but she wants to go everyday.

The point of my long story, kids are more resilient with change than we give them credit for!

Hi fellow mommies

Both my husband and I work in the Southern Suburbs in Cape Town, but we live in the Northern Suburbs. It has always been a hassle and given some other factors, we have now have finally decided to start house hunting and put our current property on the market.

I am okay with moving, but I am really anxious to get a good playschool / creche for my two little girls. They will be 3 and 2 years old respectively next year. The younger one is still at home, but the 3 year old is at a creche close to our home in the Northern Suburbs.

We speak afrikaans at home, and the current playschool my 3 year old attends, the split is about 50/50 English and afrikaans. So she understands English and is used to it, but not exclusively.

Given the language issue, my big concern is finding a creche with at least 2 or 3 other afrikaans speaking kids and a teacher that can at least understand afrikaans. My 3 year old is very shy, and I am worried that with all the stress of moving and putting her in an all english school will be too much for her. Also, my younger one is not as shy, but this will be her first time going, and given she has mainly been exposed to afrikaans (except for playgroups and our english friends) I really want her to have someone that she can communicate with in afrikaans too.

Okay, so sorry for the long post, but essentially what I am asking for is recommendations of playschools/creches in the Southern Suburbs (we are looking at Meadowridge/Bergvliet/Constantia areas) where there may be a few afrikaans kids and teachers that will be able to understand and communicate in afrikaans.

I would REALLY appreciate all and any help and thoughts you may have.
