Thanks Shantal. Yes indeed that dummy is a lot of work. Seems to be going well. I will hear what his teacher says when I fetch him this afternoon.

Hi Joanne,

My boy only ever used his dummy at sleep time. He started school at 2 years old and I will always send the dummy in his bag....until one morning when I could not find it and when i got to school, i told the teacher to please let me know if he fusses, and I will purchase another and bring it to school....the teacher was quiet confused, as my son was never seen with a dummy at school and he never asked for it at nap time

Total Shock.

As soon as I will fetch him, he would ask for it in the car.

A year later, still on the dummy only at home.

Until last month, when i decided it was time, i told him we lost it and it cannot be found, he was miserable for 3 nights and on the fourth he accepted it was gone....he is now 3 years old.

That dummy is surely hard work!!

Thank Pokkeltjie. We are now on day two and I must say it actually was easier than I thought he even told me this morning that his dummy was gone. And he did not cry about it at all. So I think the time was right.

Hi there,

My daughter was more or less the same age as your son....
We went camping and she also lost the dummy (only took the 1 dummy with, but had an extra one at home)
We weren't close to a shop to buy another one - so she had to go without it. She cried for one or two days...especially when she got tired, but by the time we went back home she could go through the day/night without it.

Good luck

Hi Mommies,

I have a question. My son is almost 2. Yesterday when I fetched him at daycare his dummy was lost and we couldn't find it. Me and hubby decided that it might be a good idea to use this as an excuse to take away all of the dummies.

But I am so sorry for my little boy he asks for it and when told he can't have it cries a lot. He had no trouble sleeping without it last night but this morning it was the first thing he asked for.

Do you think I should rather let him have it a while longer or should we just tough it out now? Any advice? And how long will the crying last if we decide to tough it out?
