Tess_S - you can still arrange an hour nap/quiet time with your two year old.

If sleeping is not happening, then maybe explain that it is quiet time (so you can get a break) maybe LO can watch television quietly - you can pick a really low level DVD that is not high intensity stuff. He can lie with his blanket and soft toy on the couch, and he has to remain there for 90 minutes, or he can lie in his room for 90 minutes. He does not have to sleep, but it is door closed and quiet time.

I still do this with my older kids on a weekend afternoon, I do it say one Saturday every two weeks, but it depends on what we have been doing on the day or the weekend. I can get a good 60 - 120 minutes out of it in some cases.

You can still get away with a sleep/quiet time for a LO of two years old, and I would definitely start instilling the habit now to allow you some respite when your new baby comes along.

I have a letter from my pdoc to say I am insane, so tread lightly with me, some days I can be a total bitch. I'm lying. Most days I am a total bitch.

I abhor smiley face icons. Just saying.

I am wondering if it is worth it to do a form of "sleep training" for nap time with my 2 yr old. For the past 2-3 months naps are a hit and miss affair and it stresses me out quite a bit.
He used to go down around 12-ish for a good 2 hours. Not anymore! But I know he still needs his nap as he gets really cranky at bedtime (which we move up to 6pm if he hasn't slept).

So, option 1: try to put him down and if he resists, just leave it and let him stay up
option 2: put him down into his crib and leave him there for about an hour (when I do this, he will fuss for 2-3 minutes, then talk to himself for about an hour in bed)

I'm expecting our 2nd LO in August, so it would obviously be better not to have a screaming cranky toddler around bath and bedtime … what can I do??
