question-circle 2 year old suddenly reluctant to go to play schoo

I did have a chat with his teacher and she said he seems fine otherwise. Plays nicely etc. I think maybe he is just taking a chance - he can probably sense that I would keep him home, but DH is adamant that he mustn't develop this bad habit. I guess it's guilt from my side knowing I will have less time for him in a couple months.
But gosh, aren't they emotional-manipulators?! I actually thought I would be a tougher parent than I am turning out to be …. but I will persevere!!

Brandon also did it for a while an it really distressed me, cos he had already been going (very happily) for about 7 months.

Turned out there was another little boy who howled every day and his mother would sit and cuddle him for ages, so I guess Brandon was taking a chance

My 2 yr old does the same from time to time. He has almost been at his little playgroup for a year. Most days he loves it and wants to go but sometimes there are tears when I drop him off. This usually happens when he has been off because of school holidays or illness. Then it takes some time for him to get back into the school thing again.

Have you spoken with his teacher and asked if he is unhappy during the morning. If he is then you proberly need to invesigate further to see what is bothering him. It may be the baby but it may be something at school that troubles him. However if he is just unhappy before you drop him and then happily settles in to class and partakes in all the activities the others are doing then I would not worry. Afterall he is still a baby and has only been a t school for 3 months. It can take a long time for them to adjust especially if they have been at home up until this point with either you or a nanny and having one on one attention. Now he is a class of a few kids and it is quite stressfull for them at the beginning.

Oh my son also gives me problems going to school when his father travels. He is quite a Daddy's boy so when Daddy is away it upsets and unsettles him quite a bit.

Mommy to Ryan almost 3years old and Ben almost 5 months old

You'd be surprised at what they know!!! Mia was a year and 10 months when I had my miscarriage and she just knew. Told me that there's no more baby in my tummy and my tummy is empty now :(

Then she was two years one month when I fell preg with Hannah and she knew it aswell. In fact I was only 8 weeks along when she started talking to her sister and yes, she knew even at 8 weeks that it was her sister (we only found out at 14 weeks, so she just knew)!!!

Have you included him in the pregnancy i.e. taking him to the scans, etc?

Anyway, about school, Mia's been going to school since she was 4 months old and there are still some days where she cries like a banshee when I have to leave. I think it just comes with the territory. Explain that you will come fetch him later and he must tell the teacher about what he did the night before or that morning and that the teacher really wants him to be happy for her and so do you.

Maybe ask him about his friends and what he did, etc, maybe there's a kid who gives him a hard time or maybe the teacher has to moan at him because he's still a bit new there and not totally familiar with the setup and routines, etc.? all this can make him upset.

My 2 year old has been in play school since Feb this year, 3 consecutive days a week. The first few weeks were awful, yes, but he seemed to settle down nicely and happily went off in the mornings and happily came home by midday.
Suddenly, last week, he's almost back to square one - not bawling, but definitely unhappy to be going and making sure we knew it.
We are expecting our 2nd baby in August and would obviously like for him to have his own little social life too, and leave me with a few hours a week with the baby.
What could be setting him off like this? I don't think he is aware that I am pregnant and that another child is coming …..
