have you considered that it could be eczema? alot of kids suffer from it and its aggrivated by shampoos and products that are harsh for the skin/scalp.

it does make it greasy for a bit , but wash it off properly , it makes the hair shiny and soft and defn gets rid of the dry scalp

I tried using the Elizabeth Anne's special baby shampoo which I use on Hannah, and I haven't noticed the dry scaly blotches on Mia's scalp since I've used that.

Her hair is long, so I'm a bit nervous to use oils? Won't it make her hair very greasy? Or does it come out nicely when you wash their hair?

hi there , my little one had the same thing for some time , we had to get olaitum soak off for her to sit in and then put some on her scalp , the olive oil works wonders as well. We also used coconut oil and then combed it after dabbing some on. She is now dry scalp free.

Hi all

Mia has a very dry scalp. She doens't have dandruff, but if I look on her scalp (when I do her hair or play with with her hair), it's very dry and almost looks like what cradle cap looks like with those scabby looking dry bits??? but she's almost 3 and half years, so can't be that.

What can it be and what can I do?

We do use toddler shampoo, so it's not like we use adult shampoo which is too harsh.

My daugther suffered with exactly the same thing. We could never get rid of it. What we ended up doing out of desperation at the end of last year was heating (Warm not hot) Olive oil, rubbing it into her scalp, leaving it on for while and then taking a fine comb and kind just lightly scratching the yuckies off. We never pulled any off, just those that came of naturally with easy combing. Then we washed her hair once or twice to get the oil out. We had to repeat this process a few times bit it has genuinly worked and she is free from the cradle cape (Excema)

The thing is that is doesn't seem itchy at all. I've never seen her scratch at her hair/head!!! She is blissfully unaware of it?!

if it's really concerning you, eg it's really itchy and keeping her up at night, perhaps she needs a visit to the paed (btw at what age do they stop going to the paed and start seeing the GP? - sorry, arb question  ). It could be eczema or psoriasis, but I think this needs to be diagnosed first before you use those medicated shampoos.

If it's mild, I still swear by Cetaphil - the body wash for dry, sensitive or itchy skin. I've been using it now for Erin's hair for a couple of months (as her scalp was really itchy and dry/ flaky) - btw she's 21 months now - and not only has the dry scalp gone, but it leaves her hair nice and soft and glossy. :)
