Its good though to question , question and question ,even if it irritates the crap out the doctor

I also want to add that many parents get really upset when a doc tells them that it is a virus and there is not treatment other than panado for pain and fever. It's as if some parents want a quick fix.

My paed apologised once for not giving meds and I said I was pleased. He said he gets lots of parents that actaully ask for antibiiotics because they think it is a quick fix.

maybe also take him to a clinic sister at clicks or dischem, the consultation there costs about R30 and they will let you know if there is something to worry about.

most of the times I find that some doctors prescribe meds just because they can and have no regard for the affected party and your doctor just proved my theory right.

Your docs a moron. Dont get the antibiotics, you dont need them unless his snot/phlegm is green/yellow which indicates an infection.

If he doesnt have a temp, then it may just be a common cold that needs to run its course (can be anything from 3 - 7 days). Unfortunately if its a cold there isnt much you can do to make it go away, just be extra vigilant with hand washing ect.. as thats how it gets transmitted.

If its allergies, your baby wont "catch it" then it wont go away and I would seek a second opinion.

He first gave the script for the allergies and told me to wait untill the mucus turns yellow/green then use the antibiotics.

I dont have the time to wait for the mucus to change color,i need my son to get better. I am so worried that the baby can get the virus aswell.

i was sitting 2h30 in the waiting rooms for a 5min consultation. Went straight from work with all 3 kids,no supper ,moaning baby,cranky kids for the wait and super furious mom( sjoe what a sight)

If it's allergies, why does he prescribe antibiotics?????? How old is your son? I would definitely get a second opinion before using the antibiotics!

This is really horrible, I get so mad at doctors when they do this type of thing. Why don't you give him a call and ask for an explanation why he went from allergy meds to antibiotics?
