It is still red, but the pain has gone! Thanks.

I have never used corn flour before, but it worked a charm - I did use it with a concoction the pharmacy mixed and almost most things you guys suggested. With plenty of fresh air ;)

Use Bactraban, Sudocream and an anti-fungal cream. Do layers of all 3 creams each time you change her.

I'm with Tania on that one so I suggest you maybe get the Medaspor or even Candizole, I now candizole is very cheap, but works wonders! Why don't you get it anyway! I think together with the naked bums (when you can) the corn flour etc it can just be a winning recipe! If possible let her lie in the sun with her naked bums for a SHORT period at a time!

O my goodness! You guys are a wealth of information! Thanks for all the advice - now where to start...

My LO is now running bottomless around the house! I think she is having great fun doing so - this cold winter definitely did not give her many opportunities to go natural!

Tania - I am keeping my fingers crossed it is not a fungal thing, shame, it just sound so much worse! But if it does not get better by tomorrow I will definitely go and get some Medaspor. Well, actually, if it does not improve towards tonight I might have to go round the pharmacy!

Thanks again Moomie moms - you are great!

Nadz when Kayla was little she also got a terrible nappy rash which didn't get better. I eventually took her to casualties and it turned out to be eczema (skin infection). I can't remember the name of the lotion they gave me but it really worked - it was expensive - nearly R300 for the tube more than 6 years ago!

Best of luck. It's hard to see them like that.

After 2 courses of antibiotics, it might well be thrush which will not clear without an antifungal. If the other remedies are not helping, get some Medaspor cream and apply after each nappy change-hopefully this will help.

we had very little nappy rash and i never really used bum creams in general. I love the mother nature bum balm but it is a preventative balm not curative.
On the few occasions that my daughter did get a rash basic thick fissan paste worked faster than any of the other remedies. I have read often that nappy rash needs a cream with a zinc base to help it heal fast (Weleda also have a nice Calendula paste with zinc but I found fissan worked faster).
As Bron said try give her some nappy free time in the day so her bum can get fresh air (and if possible some sunshine)

If it is persistent look at putting a cloth liner (fleece) inside of the nappy it will still give a stay dry feel but will act like a barrier between the wetness of the wee filled absorbent gel and the skin until the gel absorbs and recrystallizes.
