Lol I prove this theory wrong.

We BD'd the day before and day after O more or less. I orgasm'd.
We have a little girl :)

Hubby has one sister, his dad is one of 2, a boy and a girl, so no female dominance on the male side of the family.

Guess it really is down to what sperm survives and so much can determine this.

Deja Happy BD'ing! Exciting times :)

Deja I REALLY wanted a girl and we used the Shettlers method and it worked!

When trying to conceive a girl, Shettles recommends that you don’t orgasm during sex as the body produces substances after orgasm that makes the vaginal environment more alkaline, which favors the “boy” sperm.
The contractions which accompany an orgasm help move the sperm up and into the cervix, giving the “boy” sperm an extra chance at being available when your egg is available for fertilization.

I don't really WANT to conceive a girl/boy. I want to leave it all to chance.

I would love another girl, but I know my husband would love a boy but I would just LOVE another healthy wonderful baby. Gender is not an issue.

Was just wondering how true that is that the closer to ovulation you shag, the more likely it is to be a boy.

Wish I didn't know when I ovulated and just fell pregnant "per ongeluk". :-)

Hi Deja

It is called the Shettlers method.

Here is the reasoning behind the method.

Your egg only lasts for about 12 hours. Sperm is either male or female(putting it very simply). Girl sperm lives a long time but is quite slow. Male sperm swims faster but dies quickly.

So if you have sex 3/4 days prior to ovulation (ie no sex 1/2 days prior to ovulation) the thinking is that the male sperm will have died and only female sperm is then waiting for the egg. If you have sex as close to ovulation as possible ie day before or ideally on the day of ovulation they say that the male sperm will make it to the egg first which would be there waiting for sperm.

The issue with this method is that you could miss ovulation completely if you are trying for a boy and it takes all the fun out of making a baby as you would need to do ovulation tests etc. If you are very in tune with your body you may be able to feel the ovulation which helps.

They say if done correctly it has 70% accuracy but who knows.

Oh just to add that I did timed cycles where they draw bloods daily to check for ovulation and then tell you when to have sex so you have sex very close to ovulation and we have a son.

Just to add that another article said that girl/boy is also dependent on the male genes. Apparently you should look to your husband and see how many brothers/sisters he has. More brothers increases the chance of having boys. Doesn't help though if there are one of each. Again Neil has 4 brothers, 1 sister and together they have 7 children. Only one girl.

Hi girls

We actually only want to TTC in December but I don't want to wait any longer. My question is this:

While I don't mind AT ALL if we get a boy or a girl, I want to know if we BD about two days before ovulation, if the chances are better of us conceiving a girl? Is there any truth in that?

I am ovulating on Sunday/Monday as I worked it out and then going away for a week. So just wondering if we should take the chance before I leave of wait until next month.
