Hi Twintastic. I donated eggs last year. ok, because of my ignorance, it turned out to be a lot more involved that I'd initially though.
Ok, this is what I remember:
Day 3 after your period, you go to see Fertility specialist/gynae, and he will give you the kit with the Gonal F injections inside and show you how to use them
You then start injecting yourself at a certain time of day for a number of days until your next appointment. (gynae will tell you)
You then go in & he will do a scan to check how big your follicles have grown and decide whether you need to keep on taking the shots (the shots stimulate your ovaries/follicles to grow).
Then when he feels your follicles are the correct size and you have the appropriate number of them, he will prescribe the trigger shot. (I had to take mine at 3am because it has to be EXACTLY timed to when he will do the extraction operation.) I don't remember how many days after trigger shot is the extraction. I think a day or 2 though.
The extraction operation is...ok. I could actually feel what he was doing but it wasn't painful. I'd call it (& I hate it when doctor's use this word), uncomfortable.
Why I say it was more detailed than I thought, I didn't know I'd have to see the FS SO many times! Or that I'd have to take SO many injections! (The trigger shot is sore but the other GonalF one's are ok once you get used to them.)
After the op, you will need to relax at least for that day cos you will feel tender inside.
Hope that helps.
