Hi SuzM, Welcome to moomie.
I am sorry for your loss, it sounds as if you had a really rough time.
I had an ectopic pregnancy 3 1/2 years ago. My tube ruptured and also had internal bleeding and lost a lot of blood. Unfortunately they couldn't save my tube but my ovary. Scary as hell.
Doctors recomended that I get post-traumatic stress debriefing since I was in a life threating situation. I am glad I did that.
However having done some research about the topic I sadly came to know that once you have had an ectopic, you are more likely to have another one again due to the tissue damage. Not the news I wanted to hear. Basically my doctor said we just need to be on the safe side and whenever pregnancy might be suspected, blood tests to estimate the HCG levels must be done ASAP to rule out another ectopic.
I waited 6 months before we TTC. I was very lucky to fall pregnant the first month after trying to conceive and I have a healthy 2 year old today.
What I have read on the internet is that doctors recomend that you do not fall pregnant right after an ectopic especially if there was major surgery performed. Your body needs time to heal where the tissue damage occured. What did your doctor say about when you can start trying to conceive again?
It is really important to talk about the fear and the trauma surrounding the whole event in my experience. You are welcome to drop me a personal message if you feel like talking or here on this thread.
Best of luck to you. xx
