file How do you afford fertility treatments?

13 years 8 months ago #233428 by gloeiwurmpie
Chanz, I hope you don't mind popping in here in the middle of things....

Could somebody please give me an idea of what fertility treatment costs?
Starting out from things like Clomid and then moving onto more complicated methods like IUI.

What does the medical aid pay? Do they pay the doctor's consultation fees and bloodwork tests or do you have to pay for all of this yourself?

Thank you ladies!

Interesting Linda and thanks.

Do you know anyone in Richards Bay who can assist? I have tried looking but only found a homepath

Hi Linda,

Welcome to moomie!

I couldn't agree with you more. My therapist who uses hypnotherapy is of the same opinion as you. She said that it is amazing to see how once therapy is completed how couples fall pregnant soon afterwards in most of the cases. I have told many friends and relatives about the importance of making sure that your "mind" is ready to receive a pregnancy but often people are very sceptical about this idea and find it hard to believe that psycology could plays such an important role in fertility treatment.

Thanks for sharing this I am sure that other moomies will find it helpful.

Very interesting Linda
I'm doing IUI due to advanced age42 (next month) merely increase my odds per cycle.
This round I decided to use my deed hypnotic relaxation skills I learnt when I studied psychology.
I agree with what you said above. And am embracing a holistic approach.
We cannot rely on medicine alone, TTC is not a clinical approach to having a baby and creating a life.

90% of infertility is due to unknown causes. Treatments are very expensive with very low success rates. Problems with conception and pregnancy can occur when the mind and/or body have temporarily lost their natural state of balance and harmony. This imbalance may be caused by mental, emotional, spiritual or physical factors, all of which are inter-connected because the mind morrors the body and the body mirrors the mind. Issues such as fears, conflict of work vs family, relationship issues, past trauma, previous miscarriage, stillbirth or birth trauma, terminations, death, issues from childhood, issues with own femininity/masculinity, perfectionism and stress are all factors that may be conscious or unconscious and prevent conception. A combination of hypnosis and acupuncture creates mind-body balance, providing tools to cope and support. Stress, fear and anxiety have an adverse effect on hormones, which in turn affect the reproductive organs. The cost of such treatments compared to rushing in on expensive medical treatments is minimal (about R5000). If there is a medical condition requiring interventions such as IVF the success rates are considerably enhanced after such mind/body treatments. I trained with a Hypnotist/Acupuncturist in the States and the success rate of IVF using both hypnosis and acupuncture increased to between 55-65% (compared to 15 - 25% with IVF alone).

Hypnotherapy can help boost natural conception by reducing stress and resgtoring a state of mental, emotional and physical balance and wellbeing.

To add, with our first IUI (when we conceived our son) we paid from our pocket and some of our wedding moola and with our IUI in November we paid from our pocket. It's such a financial sacrifice bleh...obviously we don't mind especially if it means we will get our BFP but its just disheartening when most people fall pregnant without this financial stress :(

We have medical aid- Discovery Classic Priority. Has anyone gotten their treatments covered with discovery and how did you go about it?

Hello Ladies

I am curious to know how those of you that have been through it afford fertility treatments? Do you just save up? Loan against your house bond? Take a medical loan?

We will be doing our second IUI in January and have decided to stop at the 3rd IUI before going onto IVF. However I am not sure how we will afford the IVF if we need it. I see you can get medical loans but sjoe the interest is hectic. Unfortunately we don't have time to save either.
