@ Anzel, okay now I understand :) I think that you are on the right path getting your blood work done and having the Gynae look at them

My GP did all the fertility blood tests and my hubbys SA and then if something comes up she will send hubby to a Urologist and then me a Gynae. I would've liked to go straight to a Gynae but apparently I need a GP's referral first after the basic tests have been done so that the medical aid will pay.

I have a sneaky suspicion that I am not ovulating properly or my eggs are not maturing and can't wait to be tested but I can only go after we get the results from the Urologist and the referral from the GP :(

I also get so stressed out about ttc and wish that we could have definite answers by now. Again well done on loosing so much weight that is really great! Morgan is right and we should breath and try and relax :) They say stress works against ttc so lets be positive ;)

Hi, Jay-bee

In 2013 I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance through bloods. I was put on Metformin to try and correct it, with the instruction to lose some weight.

Since then, I've lost 12kgs and now my GP wants to test my insulin and sugar again, to see if he can take me off the meds. I'm not diagnosed with PCOS, so if my insulin levels have stabalised, I dont have to use Metformin anymore.

Last week, I went to my Gynae for a checkup after six months. My cycles are regular, but my actual periods are shorter than a day. He then did a internal scan and found that I was not ovulating (At that time, I was on CD 12, so there should have been something, if I was going to ovulate soon). Therefore we know that I'm not ovulating.

My GP asked hubby to do sperm analysis and then also asked for my bloodwork on CD 22, so that he can check my hormone levels. He will then get results for progesteron, estrogen, fertility, sugar and insulin. Both hubby's and my tests are done through pathcare at our local mediclinic.

I was wondering whether I should still go for bloods, as I'm now under my Gynae's care and he hasn't requested bloods yet. I have, however, decided to indeed do the bloods, and then also send my Gynae a copy of results, when something pops up. By then we should have a clear idea as to what is going on.

If Gynae feels that hubby's results are not lekker, then he'll give meds or something for it. Hopefully this will kick in before my next fertile period in about three weeks time. Gynae mos put me on Fertomid 100mg from day 3 of my new cycle.

Hope it makes sense now, Jaybee?

Morgan, thanks for the encouragement. It's all a bit much, now. Feel like running away! Never thought it would be such a hassle to fall pregnant, thought I would stop BC and within 3 months fall pregnant. Was I mistaken indeed. I'm still battling with my weight - have another 20 odd kgs to go, but I'm making progress. I'm going forward in the right direction, and that's all that matters.

I'M NOW GONNA BREATH AND TRY AND RELAX! Should do some YOGA tonight, maybe that will help. :)

@ Anzel, I think I might have read your thread wrong. Have you gone for the fertility blood work before and that's how your Gynae knows that you are not ovulating and put you on Metformin?

Your GP wants to send you for tests to test your blood sugar and insulin?

Hi Anzel

Test was done through pathcare but our doctor explained our results to us.

Firstly I went to our GP for blood-tests that tested all my female fertility hormones, there was no problem, so our GP sent my hubby to have his SA done. Our GP explained the results to us and said that we need to see a specialist (Urologist) as a normal GP cannot check his Morphology in detail.

Yes the traveling is going to be expensive and the tests are quite expensive too :( Wow congrats on loosing 12kg that is awesome!! I would love to loose 2-3kg but that is a whole other story :)

I am no doctor and we are different but I can only give you my opinion: If I were you I would go and have the female fertility blood work tests done with your GP as then you will know the exact levels of your FSH, LH, Oestradiol, Progesterone etc. So then your GP will have your hormone levels and your husbands SA results and from there they can give a diagnosis.

If you have the results of both you and your husband and you are still not sure of what your GP is saying go and get a second opinion. You can take the results to your Gynae and see what he/she has to say. At least then you will have piece of mind

Hi Anzel

I have to say I agree with you about sending hubby's tests to your gynae. Just because they're 'women doctors' doesn't mean they don't know what to look for when a couple is ttc.

As for the blood tests though, maybe you should go for them because it's basically swatting a lot of flies with one hand. That way, should there be anything 'wrong' you can insist that your blood work be sent to your gynae as well as to your normal gp. It might also save you lots of time.

Girl, 12kg!! :woohoo: That is something to be damn proud of. I'm in the process of trying to lose the last 18kg before I'm a svelte 64kg for my graduation ceremony in May. Yeah, not freaking easy, I swear!!!

Hope the rest of you that are getting over the summer flu are feeling better and those that have just contracted it, nip that thing in the bud!!

AFM, I'm SO tired this morning and I have been drinking my pregnacare vitamins and I did sleep last night so, whatever that's about... Also, AF is truly a bitch today! She's here with a vengeance but I suppose it's because it's her last visit until next year! ;) :woohoo: :silly:

Ladies, hope you have an amazing day further. Lots of love and super glue grade sticky baby dust to all.

xx

OOOO, Anzel, don't freak out. I know that's SO much easier said than done, but just breathe. I found that sometimes I got so caught up in all the results and tests etc that I forgot to just BREATHE.

HI, Jay-bee

I just sent hubby's results to my Gynae - He will let me know by this afternoon what his verdict is. We are in Upington and we don't have a Urologist here. And due to finances, there is absolutely no way that we can travel to either Bloem/CT to see a Urologist. Our GP, who called for the sperm-analyses, told hubby that his results are fine and that there is nothing to worry about, but based on your hubby's results and Dr Google, it's not what it is supposed to be, I'm afraid. My Gynae can also apparently prescribe meds for hubby, if necessary, so I'll wait it out to hear what he has to say.

I have not had bloods yet - Supposed to go on Monday, as per GP's request, but Gynae doesn't know about the tests. So I'm not sure if I should go or not. These bloods are supposed to test for sugar, insulin (I was on Metformin 500mg for over a year to treat my insulin resistance, but I've lost 12kgs and doc wants to see if I still need to continue with meds), fertility, progesterone, estrogen and thyroid tests. Since I know I'm not ovulating, I assume my progesterone levels will be low... And seeing that I'm on treatment by my Gynae, I'm wondering whether I should wait until he sends me for bloods?? What do you think?

EISH - This is freaking me out a bit!! So many elements to consider and investigate...
