Hi Candice
Your story rings a bell with me. I didn't have exactly the same issue, but similar. Many months would go by without having a period and then I'd have it heavy for 3 weeks or more. Also got fed up with it in my early 20's and used the pill for many years to regulate my periods.
When we decided to TTC back in 2011, I stopped taking the pill and didn't ovulate at all. Miraculously I fell pregnant after a couple of months, so I was is some way saved from the whole infertility treatment route. This time however its different. Been trying for 20 months now to conceive nr 2, of which most of the time was under fertility treatment.
One thing that I've seen is that the moment I start to take Fertomid on day 3 of every cycle, my period stops, so having the extra hormones definitely helps to stop the bleeding. Perhaps in your case its all you need.
I'd really urge you to see a gynae and have him/her help you. If you don't have results within a few months, see a fertility specialist for another opinion. I can really recommend my FS any day. If you're in Cape Town, let me know if you'd like his details.
All the best!
