file MANTELVLIES BREUK EN TTC

I really am sad about not being able to drink a bit of alcohol every now and again. I never was into heavy drinking, but it really is odd always drinking water or fruit juice (fizzy drinks are also a no-no). Sometimes I consider lighting up a "spliff" :) he he

Aspoestertjie, not every one has the problem with alchohol. My sister drinks like a fish, I don't know how she does it?

Perhaps I should enlighten Hubby about the alcohol - doesn't seem to affect him, or maybe he keeps that to himself knowing full well the "gevolge".....

I have the same problem with my "kleppie" and was also advised to wait with the op for as long as possible. I'm now also on chronic meds. My dad had a hernia (mantelvlies breuk) and had the "klep" & hernia operation all in one.

But to answer your question about TTC - I had a double operation 2 years ago - gall bladder removal together with a teratoma (the size of a cricket ball) from my one ovary (with about 2/3's of my ovary) and 3 months later got the green light from my gynae to TTC. He even said that if I was already pregnant it wouldn't have been a problem.

So I'm sure if you really need to have an operation it shouldn't interfere with your TTC too much. But of course it's a good idea to check with your dr.

@gloeiwurmpie - I also can't drink lots of alcohol and wine is completely our of the question ... I feel your pain

Vk1 the "klep" doesn't close so the acid pushes up into your esophagus and burns it. If there is a hernia this will also cause acid to push up. Remember your stomach has a lining that can handle the acid but the esphagus isn't protected and burns.

A large hernia that gives you hassles requires surgery but it won't be the same as the reflux surgery so fewer hassles.

My specialist usually gives a 4 week daily course of nexiam to give the espophagus a chance to heal, but if the "klep" doesn't close as it should you will have ongoing problems and will have to take nexium daily or have the op eventually.

My specialist also sent me for tests to see the strength of the Klep so they put a tube down your nose and ask you to swallow things. This is important information to back up the findings of the scope. It is called a manometry test. This will determine if your problem is just the hernia or reflux as well.

My esophagus was so damaged due to a bad hernia and a poor sphincter that the cells in my esophagus have started to change to protect it and for people like me this condition gives us a 5-10 chance of getting esophageal cancer which is one of the worst. You can't get the cancer without this condition.

This is what they are looking for with the biopsy. I have one every year now to make sure it doesn't get worse.

The klep surgery usually corrects a hernia at the same time.

Ek kon gelukkig 'n afspraak by my gynie kry vir volgende week.

I actually think it is a blessing that I had the op or I would have landed up in hospital on a drip.

All worth it, but I wouldn't want to do it again.

Julz, I hear what you are saying, you defnitely had to do the op asap. Maybe if Vk1's condition isn't as bad as yours, I would give the op a skip.
I can't imagine what you went through with the morning sickness, since my morning sickness experience was on my list of worst top3 experiences in my life. I really envied all the pregnant ladies who had no nausea. But hey, in the end I had a lot to be thankful for.
