Does anyone know which are the catchment areas for Durbanville Primary School?
We are looking to sell and buy and would like to consider the feeder areas for Durbanville Primary School first.

I have a few friends whose kids attend Curro. The one friend is very happy at curro.

The other friend moved her kids out of Curro due to travel issues which you won't have, but also because her kids just didn't gel there. They are far happier at their government school.

The third friend's kids are doing well, but she says besides the school fees there always seem to be added costs which make it difficult on her pocket.

Their classes have gradually increased in size in some instances. The other concern for some (not all) private schools is the lack of faclilties due to them being new and less established. If you are keen on your child doing certain sports , you may need to send them to a private club which is an additional cost and trip.

Lots to consider.

That 'waiting thing' is very stressful.

I enrolled mine into a school today, and also have to wait for confirmaiton, though we are pretty much guaranteed a place (she is in the feeder school and her brother is already at the school, but, we do not live in the catchment area, so it makes me nervous until I have written confirmation.)

This school enrolment is very stressful.

My little one is at Chesterhouse in Durbanville. Also private and very good. There was also a admin fee (also big) but we get that back if LO leaves before she goes to grade R.

She has friends who go to Curro, and I have never heard a word of complaint about them.

The leaving hanging till October is difficult, as many people dont have a back up - there are some other fantastic c-model schools in durbanville - can you not try them as well? Have a few as back ups?

With all due respect to Curro and it appears to be a great school.

Not one person I know has been turned away from that school - and I have known people who have arrived with kid mid-year.

So my guess is they make a plan.

It is a bit of an issue with the government schools if you are out of the catchment area as they only get back to you around August/September with whether you are in or not, and then you are left in a bit of a quandary.

Curro is expensive, and it is a case of which school do you really want your child to go to.

If it is only Curro because you have no other option then wait to hear from the other two.

<it never hurts to drop by the reception at the schools and ask them how the enrollment is going, and how it looks for your child .... a bit of eagerness never hurt an enrollment>

Curro is a private school. Private schools do love a paying client, so the reality is you can probably leave them hanging until end of October.

They are not going to turn you down when you do the "rather large deposit into their bank account" - no matter how exclusive they look, they do keep a firm eye on their bank account, and will seldom turn a new customer away.

Well, that is my take on it ......

I am looking at schools for my LG for Grade 1 next year.
We live in Langeberg Ridge, and the closest school to me is Curro.
Anyone know of someone who's kids are there at the moment, or who have taken them out and why?
The other schools I have applied at are Eversdal and Gene Louw.
Both are good government schools, but we are not in their direct feeder area (although they do say they allow for learners outside the area if there is enough space).
My dilemma is that they will only let us know end of August and October respectively, while Curro, although costing double the money, has space available and can confirm for next year as soon as I pay my admission fee (large amount of money, that you don't get back if you cancel the admission).
I'm just worried that I wait for the others to come back, and then we don't get in, and by that time we have no other options?
What would you do in this situation?
