Weird, what is this doing under welcome, I didn.t post it here, and it shows it is under tweens and teens, but its located under welcome. Hehe.

I guess I will have to see if it happens again, and then maybe speak to someone. I did actually tell him this morning what happens to people who take stuff........

Hi

My daughter had "sticky fingers" at pre-school/grade R. I think it is just a stage they go through. But I do feel that punishment by the school/parent is the best way to discourage this season they seem to go through i.e. no baking on Friday

My daughter used to take the most silly stuff. she had a thing for erasers at one stage (probably because i used to moan she always lost them so then she amassed about 15 by redistribution of eraser wealth!)

Also around age 5 ish, she stole a sweet from the local 7-11. This was on top of the sticky fingers at school and I'd had enough.

I took her to the friendly police station down the road. And the police man gave her a lecture. We went into the charge office and I explained with some winking on my part, that my daughter had taken something.

We then drove back to the 7-11 and with great shame, she had to return the sweet.

She pooped herself. And assures me she has never stolen something since.

She's 12 now and we laugh about it.

Abit harsh perhaps. But she learnt her lesson quick quick.

I am pretty sure most kids do it and to be honest I think it is very positive that he told you even though it was maybe because he couldn't find it and may be caught out, but still.

Tell him what you have told us. Tell him about your brother (say it is your cousin??) and tell him how it turned out for him and that you really don't want him to go through the same thing.

I guess you need to know if this is a regular occurance and if it is maybe seek thrapy. I agree punishing him isn't ideal and hopefully this may teach him not to do it again.

Ok, I feel so ashamed posting this here, but I do need your advice, and help.

this morning my son 6.5y old woke up crying. (dh told me, didn't see or hear myself). He said he took a toy of a kid at school, and he has to give it back, and now he can't find it, cause it's somewhere in his toybox.

now I know at some stage all kids do this. My lg once took a packet of fudge, but the cashier saw it, and told me. She got a good hiding at home, and never did it again.

this is not the first time I believe. But previously he would hide something behind his back when dh fetched him from a friend, and when questioned, he said the friend gave it to him, but he was scared dh would be angry.

I know how bad this can get for a child. My brother has an illness that makes him take stuff since he was little. And he has been 'marked'. I dont want my son to go the same route
. I don't want him to loose friends, and always be the one they blame if stuff goes missing.

dh didn't want to punish him this am, because he said my son felt bad enouth - the crying ect.
how do we treat this? How do we get him to not do it again? We have told him how wrong it is. Made him feel bad.

Please, any advice would do. Makes me feel like a bad mother.
