Lol! Just couldnt resist adding to this! My lg stays awake for AT LEAST 7 hour stretches and hardly ever has gone to sleep before 11 (after starting nighttime bath and routine at 7ish!). She is now 7 wks but has always been the same. I thought there was something wrong with her after reading sleep non sense! And felt like the worst mother in the world! Now i know she just likes to be awake. After many hours alone with her listening to white noise recordings i thought i might lose my mind! Lol.

Phew, I'm so glad I found this post again! Here I am, LG turning 4 months tomorrow and fighting every single time she's is supposed to sleep! I'm exhausted and frustrated! She used to sleep through almost every night lately and after three months of having to let her sleep on me for day naps (no matter what I tried she wouldn't go down) I could even put her DOWN for 2 hour long day naps! I was over the moon! BUT then Baby rule no. 1 kicked in: whenever Mommy thinks she's got it in a bag, I'll take control again and throw my whole routine out of the window...sigh!

Okay, so I see it might be teeth, wising up, not wanting to miss out or possibly all of the above!?

Gosh, I hate Baby Sense, too! It definitely does NOT apply to my baby!? Even if I kept her in a dark room with white noise the entire day she would still fight her sleep!

Sorry, ladies, just needed a place to vent LOL :P I have a super important work meeting tomorrow and was hoping to get some time to prepare...no such luck for me today!

lol
It just took me an hour to put J to sleep and I've been thinking of you!
Honestly I feel your pain. (litterally) Ive posted so many threads on this topic, I think the one is called backbreaker baby.
My lb is, and always has been a heavy little guy. My arm aches and when I lay down to sleep my back often feels like it's pincing.
I use to laugh at a friend of mine who took 15min to put her baby down. I was so sure I was gonna do what it takes to have a baby that I could put down and walk away.
Anyway, it sounds like plenty of people struggle with this and I only wish I hadn't made such a 'thing' of sleeping.
I just know that it's important for him to sleep and if he naps well I also get a good nights rest.
I'm still experimenting and I'm hoping I'll find something that works for both of us.
Good luck to you guys!
Sincerely!!

Don't worry Memo, I know everyone swears by it but Baby Sense was my personal nightmare. Made me feel like a complete failure, so I really only glanced at Sleep Sense. Everytime I broke the 'rules' (and still do as I can't erase them from my mind), which is probably most days, I think I'm the worst mom ever, putting my needs first. So the book was promptly passed on!

O... my... gosh.. Lata! a year?

@ Kaye OK, well in that case Im gonna have to say...
Chuck out the sleep sense horror book. lol
I am trying soooo hard to forget everything I read in it!
It made me feel like SUCH a failure. I have come to realize that screw 'bad' habits! You will wish you had ANY cheat to make your baby settle down to sleep, and nursing is a pretty effortless one, anyway, whats so bad about it?
These days I find that playing load music whilsht dancing with J does the trick, but I dont know for how long.
Sleep cues have equaled fury cues for us, and at six months he's got quite a temper...lol
I had to resort to catching him off guard..
Now he hates my singing...
and so do I

Thanks for the advice!
Lata, I so hope this doesn't last for a year! I don't know how moms cope with the sleep deprivation.
Yes Memo, I have a boy. Maybe he has just wised up. The last 2 nights he's been so tired that he falls asleep while nursing (probably another bad habit I'm starting right there), so its been bliss! Lets hope the bliss lasts a little longer.

my LG also was like that and to be honest it never changed until she turned 1 recently.

For 12 months i went through fighting to sleep every single night ... i did the whole routine massaging feeding properly etc etc etc she used to wake up between 6-8 times a night... i was going insane!!

From 1 year all that changed (thank God) dont know how much longer i could have lasted going on like that and still functioning for work everyday.

Alll my firnds babies had been sleeping from 3 months ... i was the only one who had teh baby with sleep issues.

I dont know what to say ... i even went to Ann Richardson for sleep therapy help - R500.00 ... her advice did not help ... we tried everything ... i bought so many things .... nothing...

Just hang in there ... it will get better.... :P  ;)
