Thanks Madelaine. I suppose I will just sit it out and hope he goes back to his normal self soon.,

Obviously the teething makes our situation much worse.

Hi Hayley, know exactly what you mean and it definately sounds like seperation anxiety. It is apparently very normal and most babies go through this phase. How long is lasts differ from baby to baby.

My lo has been quite restless the last couple of weeks (tossing and turning the whole night in her cot). She is teething at the moment, so I guess that is the reason why. But at this age their brain takes in so much info, and with crawling/walking or trying to crawl/walk their brains go into overdrive. All these things can contribute.

Hi

Does anyone know anything about separation anxiety. My 10 month old has all of a sudden become so clingy. He won't go to anyone else even if he knows them. But worst of all he is waking at night and is hysterical. Usually he will wake, I go in pop his dummy in, lie him down and walk out and he goes back to sleep immediately but for the last few nights he has been waking up in hysterics and when I go in, he refuses to go back to sleep. He stands in his cot and wants me to take him out. Even if I take him out and sit with him in his room in the rocker, he calms and then when I put him back in his cot he starts crying again. Last night he was up for 3 hrs and refused to go back to sleep. Even if I calmed him in his cot then I would have to stand there. As soon as I tried creeping out his room he started crying again.

I assume this is separation anxiety. Anyone have any advice. My first born never went through separtion anxiety so this is new to me.

Oh and by the way he is also teething. His first tooth has just broken through but I am using Calpol for that so I am sure he is not crying because he is uncomfortable.

What can I do? And how long does this phase usually last?
