We also do the hearing tests etc. I think it is important to take your kids to the doc for checkups so that if there is a hassle they can pick it up and deal with it before it becomes more serious or causes more issues.

I took my kids for their 6 week check ups, then again at around 4 - 6 months and again at around a year or so and I took Kayla just before she started school - the pedi then picked up that her hips are not aligned and told me to give it a year or so and to bring her back - which I need to do now to check what's happening. I also took her for hearing and eye tests before she started school - just to make sure all is fine.

Hi Kaytee

Parents seem divided on this topic. We were told to see the paed at 6 weeks then again at 4 months which we did and then again at a year.

I was a bit of a pain the first year with Dylan and took him fairly often purely because he struggled with his weight and puked alot and got infections without temps so I would rather have him checked out.

Now we just take him to the paed when he gets sick (temp for more than 3 days etc). He was misdiagnosed by a gp when I couldn't get an appointment with the paed and Dylan wasn't well and it annoyed me so now we only go to the paed.

You do pay more which is why mothers are reluctant to go the paed but you can pay 280 to see your gp for 5 rushed minutes or you can spend 500 to see the paed for 20 minutes of quality specialist care. I opt for the second to be honest.

For us it was important in the first year as your lo can't tell you what is wrong so we prefer a specialist. I am also anti gp's personally (wrong I know but my wonderful gp left the country and the new one isn't great.)

Hi Ladies..

I am always reading about LO being taken to the paed for check ups...

Do you take them only when it's necessary or does it have to be done routinely ie monthly etc???

I only took her for the 6wks check up...
