thrush & cloth nappies - help!

I've washed all the nappies and wipes this morning with detergent and am leaving them out in cape town's hot sun today. And then I'm taking a huge pot home from work today (32 litres!) so that I can boil the nappies tomorrow and dry them again. Hopefully this works, holding thumbs!

How long should I boil them for, 10 minutes or longer?

Ditto the other ladies. I use cloth and havent had this problem at all, so I think its just one of those things not because you are using cloth. But the fungus will still be in the cotton so boil all your nappies and then make sure that they are 100% dry - in the sun before using them again. Dampness will cause the fungus to thrive (direct sunlight.. I use the MN nappies as well and they do take slightly longer so maybe put them out in the sun for 2 days to make sure...)
I wouldnt use the sterinappy because it will damage the nappy fibres, but thats up to you:)

Just to add. Dry the nappies in the sun which may also help kill the thrush.

Kaye thrush is a fungus which can get into the pile of the fabric, as Julz said you will need to wash them on a high heat or boil them to get rid of the thrush before you use them again.

I would even if using the biowash ball still use some detergent or at the very least add tea tree with nappies.

I never use cloth nappies but I know that when Dylan got thrush I was told to boil!!! my bras as it really has to be hot.

I know you get a sterilising soloution called sterilon. Try and soak them in that. It is clear that the spores are probably back in the nappy or perhaps the thrush didn't clear.

Shame it is really frustrating I know!! I suggest you continue with the cream for at least 3/5 days after the rash goes to make sure it is gone.

I think you should consider washing with a mild detergent and see if it helps. Maybe the bioball isn't effective enough???

I use mother Nature cloth nappies on my son. He's had a bad case of thrush for just over a month. It started to go away 2 weeks ago but then came back again in full vengeance! We used Medaspor, which made no difference, and was then advised to use Daktarin Oral Gel on the nappy area. This has helped. The clinic has also advised that I now use creche guards probiotic nappy spray too. (Which I'm doing)

So last Thursday in desparation I started putting Finn in disposables. This made a difference and combined with the daktarin, the thrush seemed to clear completely over the weekend. Today I started with his cloth nappies again and I just checked his nappy and the thrush is back!

His nappy is changed every 2 hours and is washed at 60C. Is this normal that the cloth nappy makes the thrush worse? (I don't think so though!) I'm so frustrated, not sure what to do, and I don't want to change to disposables permanently... I usually wash with a Biowashball so it can't be a detergent thing. Although I decided to start using detergent again from today, (the Biowashball just isnt effective enough on my husband's dirty clothes) so maybe detergent will help?

Anyone else have a similar experience?
