Measles is serious and children die or suffer serious side effects. When Dylan was in hospital last year there was a measles outbreak and two children were admitted and were very sick. Every child in the ward who had not been immunised against measles was given a shot.

The date at the bottom of the article is given as November 1984. A bit strange that somebody should bother to publish it on the net now, when there must surely be more current, up-to-date info on the subject (even from the anti camp).

I don't like the idea of vaccines - even though my doc and baby clinic nurse assure me that they are safe, I understand that there is a risk of my LB reacting badly to them. But I like the idea of him getting measles or the other illnesses even less, so I'm prepared to take the risk.

Measles and mumps are dangerous. Mumps can cause guys to be sterile and measles can affect the eyes. I'm not a big fan of the MMR, would rather vaccinate individually, but I also don't want my child to get either. I had measles and mumps as a child and it was horrible(and yes I had been vaccinated)

Thanks Julz, but what I'm wondering is? Are those 3 (mmr) really that dangerous? (the Ilnesses I mean)

A few years ago Andrew Wakefield had an article published in the lancet stating that MMR was linked to Autism. As a result parents stopped immunising agains measles etc for fear of their child developing Autism. Measles which was all but a thing of the past thanks to vaccines like mmr.

Fact is that Autism still occured despite parents not vaccinating and sadly children started getting measles again and with dire consequences.

It is up to you as to what you choose to do, but it is through vaccinations that we protect our children. There are always incidents when it comes to medications and there are very few registered medications on the market where there is a small percentage of patients who will suffer side effects some of which can be fatal, however medical trials are done for years to determine the safety of a product and where one person may suffer hugely many thousands and even millions benefit.

Andrew Wakefield was stuck from the council and found guilty of misconduct after studies were done showing no link between autism and mmr vaccine.

We have to be very careful when reading information on the web as there are many claims which have not been proven. Do research, chat to your paed and make an informed choice.
