file 18 month old - How to stop him from BITING!

15 years 9 months ago #152120 by Loris_1
It will pass, by itself...my LB used to do it, now 28 months, understands everything and doesn't bite at all.
Its a stage...be patiente and keep telling him, no biting!

And I think maybe trying your best to explain to him that he has hurt his brother alot and that is not very nice at all. Hurting other people is never ok etc.

He is probably not talking quite yet so got frustrated with his brother and to show his frustration bit him?

I have not been in that situation yet, but what I have read advises to shower the victim with attention and comfort.

Biting your child back is not advised, as this only teaches them, that it is ok to resolve conflict/violence with violence. The one who hits/bites the hardest is the one who wins. This in my opinion is not a very helpful lifeskill as there are better ways to resolve conflict.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jems,

On one occassion, he also bit his brother, and I bit him back (blush), but even that did'nt help.

This is a very hectic stage indeed!

Has he been bitten himself at all? Does he knows what it feels like?

Jade stopped as soon as she herself got bitten.

Otherwise no wise words... Sorry!

Hope he get's over this stage soon!

Hi everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked numerous times, but I can't find any link.

My youngest is biting his older brother, I have on two occassions right after he bit, taken a raw peeled onion and shoved it in his mouth, (worked with his brother) and then I put him in his room in his cot and left him alone for a minute or two, but it's not working.

Has anyone some advice for me?

The places were he bit my eldest is blue and bruised, he really bites very hard...
