Expiry date on nappies?

Thanks for you input on this ladies..... Maybe it will be better to start a "nappy fund" and just save money in there, and when baby comes just buy nappies from that.....there will be some more specials, of that I'm sure. Just can't wait to start shopping!

I am a firm believer of taking advantage of a special...BUT.....

I bought R3000 worth of nappies (pampers active jumbo packs for R125 per pack at dischem). For the first 8 months everything was fine and then I started noticing that the nappies have hard "crystals" inside.

I contacted pampers about 8 months ago about it and they tested the nappies and said that they were fine. I am super angry with them, because If I wanted to buy nappies with hard "crystals" like rock salt in I would brought that, but when I purchased the nappies in the beginning it didn't have these hard crystals. As time goes by the nappies are getting "stiffer" and harder. I believe that is when the nappies get old and the gel turns into crystals.
Still pampers have not resolved the situation, after 4 hours on the phone for the past 8 months.

So, what I have done is to exchange the unopened packs for different nappies. Most shops will do this for you.

My nappies were still 2 years from the expiry date.

Maybe I would buy any other brand nappies if they were REALLY cheap, but not pampers again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jo c is right. We keep nappies for quite a while, but we only used about 2 packs of newborn and we didn't use that many of the next size up either.

Some people like the nappy to fit well, but I prefer a looser nappy and I think that is why I don't have leaky nappies that often. When a nappy leaks I get the bigger size and no hassles again.

That doesn't count though in the first few weeks as usually a leaky nappy early on is due to mommy or daddy error!!

I used plenty of size 3 and 4!

Another thing to consider is that it seems baby chooses the nappy. Many moms buy lots of nappies only to find out afterwards that for some reason they just don't work well for the baby. There are moms who prefer huggies and others who swear by pampers which is why we didn't stock up on nappies. If you do buy stick the slip on the nappies and the store might exchange it later on for a different size or make.

Liz - Haven't heard of this. But would recommend not to stock up on too many new born packs, cos they grow and gain weight so quickly in the beginning that in the first few weeks they have out grown the new born sizes.

A friend of mine bought and kept for about 2 years, and didn't complain about anything

Just a quick question for those of you with babies....

We are TTC, and want to buy some disposable nappies in the meantime. (While we have some cash still! ) Some people said that the gel in the nappies can become hard in the long run. How long did you have nappies before using it, and did you find any problems with it? There is such a lot of specials out at the moment on nappies, want to make use of that....
