I used both Huggies and Pampers new baby, and didn't really see a big difference.
I liked the Huggies more, (softer, nicer looking, just seemed to fit nicely), but the pampers worked just as well.

When I moved to size 3, I went with pampers active, since I read a lot of complaints about the new Huggies gold (and it worked out slightly cheaper per nappy).

So far I'm happy with the pampers - when I do have a leaky nappy, its usually 'parent' error - either too loose, or too full. And even this is not very often. He also sleeps through without needing a change.

For anybody that's interested - I noticed some old Huggies gold, size 3 (the light green pack) at our Toys R Us (Blackheath - opposite Cresta). I've heard that they've become scarce

Thats very interesting and I see they sell a little sample pack for like R10 so you can try them out. I think I might just do that!

With my first son, I only used Huggies Dry comfort. Didnt leak or anything.

With my second, I wanted to only use Huggies Gold. I have never experienced any problems. I have tried cuddlers, they leak, dont like Pampers active at all, huggies dry comfort doesnt fit well on him, he is now a size 4 but with dry comfort, the 4 is too small and 5 too big. They leak all the time.

I decided to try the Pick and Pay brand after reading about them on one of the nappy threads. I dont think I will go back to any other nappy again. Fits him perfectly, sides strech, no leaks, they were made for him. Helps as well that for me, it works out cheaper at R99 a pack. For me, I say they are even better than Huggies Gold.

Mandz, I recently discovered the Pick 'n Pay 'Real Baby' brand nappies and must say that I am very impressed.

I used Huggies Gold and they leaked and had to be changed very often, I also used Pampers for quite a long time, and found that when they got ful they would turn sort of yellow and my son would be uncomfortable, and they would transfer moisture to his clothes if I didn't change him immediately (he did not sleep very well-I had to change his nappy in the middle of the night, and interrupt his REM sleep, causing him to wake more often).

Then I saw the Real baby nappies and haven't bought anything since. It retails at R99.99 per pack, which works out this just about R2 something per nappy, which is cheaper that Huggies and Pampers and I find I use alot less nappies now, so it is working out much better for my budget too.

The best part of it all, without changing my son's routine and without changing his nappy in the middle of the night, he wakes up dry and happy!

is the old Huggies Gold the light or dark pack? Im afraid I have been caught with a new pack again. If you are at babys r us, the Pampers Premium is R119 and with vitality its Like R107.

I did discover after all this time-yes I am blonde- You really need to take it down to cost per nappy to see whats reasonable. Especially with pampers and huggies having different quantities in their packs.

I must admit between the active and premium I really cant see the difference.

I chop and change btw huggies gold and pampers active depending on whats on special that month and have been meaning to give the pampers premium a try this month since they are on special at Checkers...

I know there is a large following on the cloth nappy forum, but I haven't found one for those of us dedicated to diapers/disposables.

As a new mom, my son is almost 5 months old- it would have been divine to have knowledge the good and the bad of the brands from other moms. Its tough to just go out there and buy a whole pack of nappies and to be disappointed at the quality, when maybe someone could have warned you.

I would love to hear, what nappies are you moms using and why? Are there any interesting facts you want to share. I know this would help especially the moms to be, who are trying to stock up now already.

I will admit that when Jordyn was born I definitely preferred Huggies new baby 1 and 2. They were soft, fitted perfectly and looked attractive and then most of all- I very rarely had a leak and when I did I think I put the nappy on too loose. I did use Pampers new baby as well, as I wanted to compare. I can;t say they are a terrible nappy, but I found them a lot smaller a fit, werent as soft and cute and I think price wise Hugglies was a little cheaper(though really not the deciding factor).

BUT when the NEW Huggies Gold came out- I was very very disappointed in my trusted brand. I obviously moved onto step 3 and definitely didnt like Huggies dry comfort-they are horrible.I tried Huggies Gold 3, and the new material is like paper-very odd. It feels really thin, and looks cheap. I will admit that they do the job. I did complain to Huggies who told me the old manufacturer went bung and that this new supplier was here to stay. And that they hoped I would adjust. I thought maybe then I was being silly. I have since been chopping and changing, I find the Pampers Premium care quite nice(and with the special running at Babys r us, along with vitality discount it makes i affordable) and I even like the normal pampers-Active. I am almost leaning to the Pampers now. Do any of you feel the same way?

I cant say I have tested any other brands, but would be interesting to hear your comments.
