Milk for 1yr and over

Yes, at least they are getting milk!!! A luxury most in africa can't afford.

So I checked the other day (real quick), Nido, Infacare, Isomil (for older children) all contain sucrose (sugar) in almost the 2nd or 3rd ingredient. However, NAN3 does contain maltodextrin, which is a type of glucose suryp, however according to wikipedia it is almost flavourless or not very sweet in taste.

But having looked again at the list of vitamins added to all the different milk brands (including first growth), it has become clear that my multivitamin suryp and other vitamins/minerals that I give my LO is far more comprehensive than the amounts listed on the milk.

I guess this is a personal choice then, either give your baby full cream milk with good vitamins extra or just buy the "ready mixed milk" with the vitamins added. The sugar added to some of these milks are really bad though.

Well at least he's getting calcium.. I love that moomie is made up of exlusively awesome intellegent moms..

I don't think any of us need to worry - at least we're giving our LO's milk - I've read on another forum about a mom of a 10-month old baby who's not giving her baby any milk feeds any more as he is supposedly getting all his calcium etc from cheese and yoghurt. WTF???!!!! I've asked her why she has made this decision, but she didn't answer. I could not believe what I have read!!

I agree that it is a personal choice and depends on what you are comfortable with, but I just HAVE to add.. Dont fool yourself and think for a second those phase 3 milks arent a marketing ploy, they all have loads of sugar in. I just read on a different thread that all of them have sugar in their first 3 (they are arranged from highest ingredient) ingredients.
Yes I suppose honey is better, but it's not neccesarry in your childs diet. All those are sugar: fructose, dextrose, anything -ose really. lol-ose
Those premade milks that dont seem to expire make me uncomfortable. Woollies stocks organic full cream milk.
I always have a litre in the fridge or freezer.
