It's funny, my son plays more with his 'cheap' toys than he does with his expensive fancy toys! We bought him one expensive toy for Christmas from toys r us (a push along circus animal thing with music and lights) and then a whole lot of cheap things from crazy store, shoprite etc. He hardly even looks at the expensive toy but will play for hours with his magic writer (R20 at crazy store) and his plastic motorbikes (R20 for a pack of three at shoprite). We also got him a toy cell phone that looks almost real and makes noises and stuff for R10 at shoprite and he loves that too. So I told my husband, there's no point spending hundreds on fancy toys when cheap stuff will do just fine! Oh, one thing I don't mind splurging on is books. My son loves books too and that's something I want to keep encouraging.

Hello guys, I’m looking for a cheap online toy store to get some learning toys for kids. I recently opened kids care canter in my area. I need many other products too but looking for the best store first. So please let me know if you know best one. Thanks!

Hi Voetjies

Where are you based? In Vootrekker Street, Parow, Cape Town there is a lovely huge Toy factory shop with everything under the sun at VERY good prices.

E.g. a got a mobile for my son's cot for R120 and the exact same mobile was almost R300 at Edgars.

Thanx for all the feedback!
I found some of the toys I wanted:
The “cone” thing where you put the rings on (BabyBoom). A plastic book for the bath (BabyBoom, Snookums product). Stacking cups (crazy store). Mirror (crazy store), that I will “modify” to put in the car for her to look at her beautiful self!
The balls I’ll buy next month (R150.00 at crazy store). The toy you put the different shapes in, I found a few at different places that’s not too expensive, will decide next month which one to buy.
The Baby an Toddler magazine for this month also have a whole story in about toys at different ages. Also with some tips on how to make some toys out of boxes. So I’m going to try that soon!
Juanita....please come and tell us about the toys you made and how the cardboard house came out! Share your “toy making talent” with us please!

we buy toys whereever we can find them the cheapest LOL cause the kids just brake them or throw away the parts :)
The forms-in -the-hole thing you are talking about voetjies comes in different shapes, i got the blue and red one from tupperware which is quite expensive but i look after that thing like gold :) then i got at crazy store a big car where you put the shapes in and also at pep for i think R20 LOL the blocks are mostly gone by now but its okay, it was cheap.

Then we buy his clay and crayons and stuff at game cause they have such a nice variety and the clay that comes in the tub holds very long and is soft.

other than that we get the toys from pep, shoprite, crazy store - they are maybe not the best quality and dont hold long but when the older cousins comes over, i dont mind them braking the toys :P And special pressies we get at Toys R us!
