Loz, we use pamper premium - and irrespective of how much you pay per nappy they are still the most economical we have used. No need for bum cream, and we have never had nappy rash and he only uses 3 nappies a day. We change in the morning, he then has a poop at bout 11ish and then at night time (unless he has a poop before then). Even when he was still on 2 feeds during nite time the premium did not leak throughout the evening. We will never use another nappy again.

Look our for bargains, we have discovery so we pay R122 per pack at Reggies...

Thanks for the responses.
I can definitely see the value of having a list with you as it is really hard to try and remember these things.
I would say R1.90 per nappy is an average price to pay for a decent brand. I will just keep my eyes out for specials coming up.
If I hear of any specials I will make sure I post them.

When Luke was born I used Huggies Dry Comfort (red packet) - and they leaked.

I then changed to Pampers Active Baby - Lovely nappy and the older he got they started leaking at night.

I then tried the Huggies Dry Comfort again and it worked (just did not hold the whole night with Luke)...

I now use Cuddlers or Huggies Dry Comfort during the day and Huggies Gold at night.

Huggies Gold is a lovely nappy.

I agree with GW, cheaper nappies in the day time and more expensive ones at night.

Do yourself a favour tho - dont buy too many nappies before baby is born (rather put the money you would spend away) until you know what works for your baby.

Good Luck!

o, I found that using cheaper nappies in daytime (ones I got on special) and then maybe a more expensive nappy like huggies gold/pampers premium at night time.

lozloz, I used to buy what is on special. Look out for really good specials. Often a special is advertised, but it really isn't that much of a special. THEN once in a while, CHeckershyper or dischem has a GOOD special! It takes a while to know when something is really much cheaper than usual. It is a good idea to have a list in your purse with various brands and price per nappy.

You can really save a lot of money if you buy on specials!

I unfortunately had a problem with one batch of pampers baby active nappies that I bought on special for R120 per pack for a jumbo. I bought R3000 worth of nappies. A few months down the line it started to form "hard crystals" inside the unused nappies. Pamper's helpline is useless, so is their service.

I worked out that one spends in the region of about R10 000 - R15 000 on disposable nappies per child. Scary.

Hi, I am having my first baby in November (baby boy) and have been doing a lot of browsing through this forum to find out where my allegiance should lie when it comes to buying nappies.
I've decided that the Pampers Premium care seem to be very well thought of aswell as the Huggies Gold and PnP Real nappies.
I have been reading comments though about how much more expensive the Pampers and Huggies are than other brands.
However, I've been keeping a record of the best prices at various stores and I don't see that much of a difference.
The PnP real mini nappies for example are R82.99 for 44 and the Pampers Premium care minis are R139.99 for 72 at BabyCity. This works out at R1.89 per nappy for the Pnp nappies and R1.94 per nappy for the Pampers Premium care. Also Huggies Gold mini are R165.99 for 88 nappies making them R1.88 per nappy.
Not much difference.
Am I missing something or do the other brands come on special more often than I have noticed.
What cost per nappy is deemed reasonable?
