Thank you Jul,

My LB also seems so emotional when cries... its such a heartsore cry... It really breaks my heart :/

I must admit, being a new mom, its a hard job, my heart is breaking for my LB.

Thanks for the comments.

I made myself a mei tei. If you're handy with a sewing machine, or know someone who is, they are easy to make - just go onto www.instructables.com to get a pattern. Otherwise have a look online - I think there may be an SA shop that sells them?

From one colic mom to another, do whatever you need to do to get through these seriously tough days. You can't spoil a baby.

I have a good belief that colic isn't just about cramps. Just too many things that don't make sense with that theory like why most meds don't work for colic and why the baby usually only cries at set times etc. I feel that it is more an issue of sensitivity. Overstimulation or possibly the baby being overtired.

Regardless of what the cause is, it does end. Eventually. I basically had my son at my breast all day long. 4pm and he would scream non stop till 9 at night. He seemed a tad better when he was being rocked gently in a dark room and all I did was hum the same tune over and over. It kept me calm which I think was the main thing that calmed him down.

A stressed mommy doesn't help. Oh and a glass of wine really helped. ME that is.

Hi Claudia,

Thank you so much for the response.

I do have a sling for my BB, however, it is a front sling. What do I use to hold him on my back?

Thanks.

Hi Norahvds. (and welcome)
At this age (before 3/4 months) babies do struggle with winds. We even took turns at night to hold our lo upright.
Babies they are such a mission.lol
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's normal. So good luck :)
I do think that the more responsive we are to our babies from the get go the calmer they seem to be.
All the best hang in there.

Please dont worry about getting your baby into "bad habits" when still so young. Most die hard baby trainers dont even recommend crying it out until after 6 months, and even then their is no evidence to say its safe and plenty to say it MAY be harmful (It increases cortisol levels in the blood which can cause attachment disorders, anxiety issues etc) If you do decise to "train" your baby at least wait until 6 months. I used to rock my child to sleep all the time, and now he goes to sleep without me rocking him at all.
The colic is a phase that will get easier. Just a suggestion - have you noticed how african babies never seem to cry?, they sleep strapped to moms back and mom just gets on with things. Babies are soothed by rocking, the smell of their mom and the sound of heartbeat. Get yourself a comfortable baby carrier (I founf a meitei to be the easiest because baby can go on back and be "out of the way") and carry him while you do things during the day. Go for light walks to help tone that tummy you were moaning about, get out doing your chores. Your baby is likely to be calmed by the movement and less likely to be crotchety. Also being upright may help if he has silent reflux which can be aggravated by lying down and will cause him to cry.
Another thing with reflux - small feeds are better, so maybe try smaller feeds more often?
When your patner, a family member etc is around - let them carry him to give you a break so that you can go get a mani/pedi, have a bubble bath, indulge yourself.

My child was colicky too, it took about 5 weeks of pure hell for me to realise that trying to get him to sleep according to the books, on his own in a cot was driving me slowly insane. Once I accepted that carrying him was easier, my life got better. Then at 3 months his colic stopped:) The first 6 weeks are the worst, the first 3 months are hard, it gets easier I promise.

Hi,

Some more help needed please.

Because of the colic and cramping after each feed, I started rocking my baby to sleep right from day 3. Now after a month and a bit, it is starting to drain me out so badly and its become so much worse

I hate seeing him in this pain, hence i rocked him to sleep after each feed, burp and change.

He cannot be placed in his baby chair or pram or cot without crying, he has to be in my or his dads arms to be happy...or the bath....

should I break this habit with him and let him learn that each time he cries he wont be picked up.. or do I continue this? If so, how do I break the habit?

please help!
