Your older child might just surprise you and be the comfort your baby needs. If you would prefer the front seat, the deactivate the airbag. With the airbag deactivated and the chair pushed all the way back and the carseat installed correctly the front seat is just as safe as the back seat.

And FYI, rear facing is the safest position for as long as possible, until at least 3 or 4 years.

Sitting in the front is not ideal at all unless you have no option (two seater car) in which case the front airbags have to be deactivated as someone has pointed out.

I think C will surprise you and you never know your little girl may be more relaxed with big brother in the car.

Thanks guys, I think its because my son was such a screamer in the car.. I was hoping to find a way to avoid all that. The mirror will help but its not idea. Reaching over with your hand is ideal :) :)!!

Hi Mandy,

My little one never liked the car when she was much younger, so I got my brother to buy me the Sunshine Kids Easy View Back Seat Mirror which is shown in the ebay picture that bulelwam (RHS) ad that helped a lot to look at what was happening at the back when i was driving and to date, DH refuses to drive if he cant see Malia through the rearview mirror. I saw this product being sold at babycity for around 150 bucks, however this will only work if your back seat has a head rest fitted, unlike the one o the LHS that my cousin bought.

maybe if your 3 yr old is is in her own car seat at the back, your new baba might be out of reach and you could always keep an eye on her using any of these mirrors?

Hi Mandy,
As flowergirl suggested, just make sure your car's airbag is deactivated or get a special mirror you can get and install in your car and you'll be able to look at your baby via your rear-view mirror. Please see attachement. The mirror in the pic is on bid or buy for R650.

Mandy - If you do decide to put your baby in the front seat - make sure that the airbag is de-activated by the manufacturer of the car. I did research on this and the danger of placing your child in the front seat is that statistically the majority of road accidents are head on collisions.

I am having my second baby end December and I remember it was such a pain to have a new born strapped into the back seat of my car facing the rear where they cannot see you or you them. I will now have a 3 year old in the back seat too and I think he might disturb or try to touch her etc and I just wanted to find out if anyone has any opinion on other ways to do this differently?

I have seen many cars with the rear facing car seat on the front seat. In terms of safety, is this very safe? I would prefer this if its not a safety risk?

Thoughts, research, ideas?

THANKS!!!
