Rakker I didn't think that at all, it's just that taking antidepressants needs to be done carefully and explained properly. Do you know how many gp's prescribe meds and even specialists (it happened to me recently) without knowing or looking into your medical history? These meds can have side effects and the patient should be monitored and seen in 6 weeks time to make sure everything is okay.

Pregnant moms need to consider breastfeeding and even the effect the meds may have on birth control.

Oh and please make sure that the dose of the pill is correct. The pharmacist gave me the wrong dose pill the other day and I slept for two days. Luckily the doc started me on one pill a day instead of the recommended 3 pills a day. Pharmacy assistants often pick the meds off the shelf so make sure the pharmacist has double checked it!!!

Julz, I totally agree. (Just in case it sounded like I promoted unresponsible use of depression meds). I just went to the shrink and after an hour session she was convinced. I also did an anxiety checklist and she took that into consideration as well. I didn't, however, know who to go to for the meds, so I went to the GP. I first went to this one guy, didn't feel comfortable that he would help manage the whole thing right, so I went to another GP with whom I feel comfortable now. She made me start slowly, with 1/2 a tablet for 5 days.

I am not against meds and am on some rather interesting ones myself, but I do urge you to make sure that a specialist has prescribed them and not just a gp. I know many women go to the gp with regards to this and it is okay, but these meds need to be given carefully after a proper diagnosis has been made and you need to be monitored on them and then weaned off of them when you are ready.

Shame nbush01, Well, my boy is 2 years old, I started suffering of PND more than a year ago without wanting to realise it, so for you to realise it so early, that is really good. I got the medication to help me and for once I am feeling human again, the doctor prescribed none addictive tablets, but ones that can be increased if one a day is not enough to settle my brain
Don't feel ashamed about it, very normal now a days. If you can get help, I promise you will start looking at things a bit differentely. Not always needed to go and see a shrink although they do need to advise on that. I just decided to share with the world that I have a bit of depression issues and it actually helped, not that people have to feel sorry for me, but so they can understand me better. Get help, it will make the worlds difference. Good luck and congrats on your beautiful angel!

Julz is right about the sleep. With me things started to really fall apart (anxiety attacks, the works) when Cherise started waking up every hour at night.

Hi nbush01.

Firstly, congrats with your LO!

I was diagnosed with PND when my LO was almost 5 months old. I struggled for a long time to cope before I admitted there might be a problem. My advice to you: get medication and don't fret about it. I didn't want to start using medication, because that to me would be admitting, officially, that I'm not in control. I did, however, listen to the shrink, got the meds and started feeling like myself again after a week (can take longer of course). The other day I realised that I haven't been out of PND since my first child was born. That has been more than 2 years! For the first time in years I actually feel that life's not that bad after all. At least with me, I bonded so well with both kids, but especially the youngest. But that made me scratch PND off the list of "possible causes of feeling cr@p". Remember, PND doesn't look the same in all women.
