We have discovered that my LG doesnt complain too much when day mom combs her hair, so let it be so...

At what age would it be "less damaging" to put braids in her hair? I really like the look of them! What is the maximum duration that a set of braid should be in for? how many days/weeks?

i really wanna put braidsin her hair, just dont want to do it immaturely. What would be less damaging, corn braids or short "loose" ones?

Sorry for all the maybe stupid questions, but being an adoptive mom, im pretty naive on this african hair story... I hear so many different recommendations...

Detangle while hair is wet or with conditioner in. Since she's small I'd say get a leave-in conditioner & detangle. Try not to comb everyday as it really will b a battle.. It really is painful.....
Pony's are a brilliant idea as braids can damage hairline

My little one is about 2 yrs now and I still do ponies. Being african and having had my hair breaded in cornrows and extensions my whole life, I choose not to do that to her a this stage. The hair get pulled hard sometimes they tend to lose the hairline. If ponys aren't your thing (I'll post another pic of my baba as soon as I get home), how about braiding those ponys into pony tails? I had a similar experience as Elamsmom, Malia's hair was braided by the nanny and she pulled it so hard that when I toolk them off, I had hairs in the bath, not a pretty sight.

I make sure that her hair is wet, I either give her something to mucnh or play some music so she could get distracted and I loosely make 4 to 5 ponies depending on how much and how long her hair is.

Another thing is, don't try and finish her hair in one go. I heard somewhere that little ones have a short attention span and can't sit in one place long enough for you to finish up

I live in Jhb so wouldn't know of any salons in Cpt.

But I had my LG hair braided with extensions a few months ago and to be honest, i think it was too premature because after we took the braids out, her hair was quite damaged and sometimes the braid came out with a little bit of hair.

I would suggest you just tie the hair up into little ponies like the pic of Imska's LG. At least that is not too strenuous on the hair but keeps it neat and pretty.

If you have a maid, maybe ask her to do it for you. Otherwise try to do it when baby is sleeping.

I know my LG will let her "auntie" (our helper) do her hair but for some reason, not mommy! With me, she gets too restless and would rather play etc. so it is a huge mission.

My how time has flown! My daughter is now 1 year old... her hair has grown nicely but still a nightmare to comb. She starts crying the minute i put the comb on her head.

I would love to get corn braids/fake braids put in. At what age can one start doing this? I heard it helps with hair growth too...

I live in the Northern Suburbs of CT. Does anyone maybe know of a decent place that does young african children's hair (braids, etc)
