Night feeds - every 2 hrs and he is 4.5 months old

I breatfed, so can't offer any advice in terms of your baba drinking more, but my daughter had reflux and vomitted all the time. But know it will pass, this practically ended at around 6 months for my daughter. She also drank very little, but often often as the reflux made drinking uncomfortable. Our paed put her on losec for a few months, which helped a lot with the feeding , but it seems your feeding problem only happens at night ?

If your son is vomiting a lot it may be reflux, raising the top half of the cot so he lays on an incline can help, as well as using sleep wedges to lay him on his side- this helped with less vomiting and if he vomit he's not laying flat on their back, which reduces the chance of choking

Also - Nuk has teats specially designed for thicker feeds - so look out for those.

Thank you very much Desiree, you are an angel. i am going to try the bigger teats and get some Nestargel TODAY.

It makes sense that he would get tired of drinking on through those small holes. I am using the NUK range, my DF bought 2 Tommy Tipee bottle in December and he refused to take the bottle, he was crying and kicking, like throwing a temper tantrum. So now we are only using the NUK.

oh..also...Cullen used to spit up/vomit ALOT after feeds....like seriously alot....and even though everyone said that it was not an issue as long as he was gaining weight, etc, it became a problem for me - it hapenned so much that I never wanted to lay him flat down incase he vomited....which he did. When I changed teat sizes, I started using some nestargel (available from Dischem only) to thicken his milk every so slightly - it has no nutritive content, it just thickens the milk slightly, in order to reduce the vomiting - which it did, I SWEAR BY nestargel = it worked for us almost immediately, and we've not looked back.

Hi Candy...I had a similar situation. My little boy (2nd baby) is now just over 4 months old. He also drank a max of about 80mls at a time....100mls was a stretch. I also tried a few different formula's - but eventually went back to S26 Gold. It would not have bugged me had I not known that Formula fed babies should not be drinking that often as the milk needs time to digest...and feeding them more frequently can lead to tummy troubles...etc - So, I tried a few things. I use Tommee Tippee bottles and changed to the bigger teat size - you should be changing teat sizes for the TT bottles from around 3 months, but I changed at 2 months already - made sure, of course, that he was still drinking comfortably - and he immediately seemed to drink better - it was as if he was not getting enough milk in with the smaller teats...and became tired of drinking at around 80mls....and that was it....which then meant he was waking earlier for feeds, and so on - much like your little guy is doing now.

Perhaps try changing the teat size & see if it helps. At 4 months he should be taking in a little more milk now - so it is perfectly acceptable to try and help him do so - without trying to force anything of course - always make sure he is still drinking comfortably - it can't hurt to try it.

Cullen now comfortably drinks 150 - 200mls at a time and wakes for only 1 bottle at night - during the day, I still feed him 5 times, because I feed 3hourly...as I have always beleived 4hourly to be too long...for my babies anyway.
