How old is your son? I would just keep cleaning it with water, surgical spirits can actually do more harm than good if you keep using it for more than a week. Ask your pharmacist for a powder to dry it out, I know you get one, I just don't know the name.

My sons stump hasnt fallen off half of it is inside his bellybutton & looks fresh the top half is blackened already! Mom took him to the doc & says its fine but Im worried how is it gonna fall off if the part attached to his belly is not exposed to air?
