Hi Anelda,

For Legal Guardians, it needs to be put in your Will. This is best done through a lawyer.

God Parents do not necessarily become a legal guardian however more of a religious influnce on the child. We have just recently chosen friends as God Parents but have made a family member Legal Guardian of our daughter. But if you say that the person is willing to be both then the God Parent part will be given through the blessing of the church. ;)

yes, I think the only way to do it officially and to make it legally binding is to put it in your Last Will & Testament.
Usually you need to visit a lawyer to get this drawn up.

Hi Anelda Snyman,

I don't know if it is the only way of doing it, but we just added it to our combined will. Whoever drew up your will (bank/laywer etc) would be able to help with that.
Anyway, that is what we did.

Hi All,

I hope you can help, DH and I have decided to appoint Legal guardian / Godparents however we have no idea how to do this...

Does any one know hoe to go about doing this, we want it to be legal because we want to know that should anything happen to us the kids are taken care off, we have found the right Legal guardian / Godparents who agreed to be their Legal guardian / Godparents, however we want to now get it on paper.

And do you perhaps know where we can get the correct documentation to fill out, I've search every where on the net but can't find the right answer.

Thank you in advance for the answers and help.
