Hi Shurainian

I can just tell you what I used:

1. Medela Mini Electric, I think it was R800, but that was four years ago.
2. Just the normal Angel Care. Worked very well. I didn't have the breathing pad.
3. Graco with the car seat that can lock into the pram. Don't know the name, just know it worked very well. Folded up small in boot and the car seat is great, because you don't have to take a sleeping baby you when you stop somewhere. You just put the car seat into the pram.
4. I have the normal Graco camp cot and both my kids slept in it until they moved to a bed. I do think a separate cot is very nice, I just never got it.

Maybe check Reggies?

Congrats!

I know how overwhelming it can be and loads of people will give you advice. Best thing to do is to round it all up and decide what makes the best sense for you.

1. Breastpump - I bought a Nuby brestpump at Dischem. Was about R1200. It is manual, electric and has a battery pack for portability. I didn't express alot but i liked the flexibility it offered.
2. Baby Monitor - I think alot of moms will agree that the Angel Care is the best. We bought ours second hand for R350. It has the sensor pad. The parents monitor can be removed from the charging station in case you need to go outside and are worried you won't hear LO. A feature I love is that it shows you the temperature of LO's room.
3. We went for the Chelino Larenza travel system. It is light and compact. Easy to fold. And fits in my teeny tiny boot with space for Shopping! It costs around R2000. I have read that the 3 wheelers are very unstable when LO gets bigger.
4. We have a wooden cot at our house and my moms and a camp cot at my dads. We bought a raw pine cot and stained it ourselves. Honestly can't remember how much it was. My mom bought hers on Gumtree for about R600 and then just bought a new mattress for it. The campcot is a hand-me-down from my dad's goddaughter so no idea what brand it is but it's very basic.

Look on Gumtree you will find loads of good deals.

Good Luck!

Hi All,

I am pregnant and trying to get basic necessities for our newborn in a few months.
I was very overwhelmed  with the choices after a visit to Baby City in High Street, Durbanville.

If possible, can you all please recommend which item , brand and why is the best for you :

1. Breast pump (Brand, Model, Reason for manual/electric, Estimation of price)
2. Baby monitor (Brand, Model, Reason, Estimation of price)
3. Pram & Car Seat (Brand, Model, 3-wheeler or 4 wheeler, Reason, Estimation of price)
4. We would like a wooden cot for our house and a campcot for grandparents house where we might leave the baby when we off to work.
Wooden cot (Brand, model)
Camp cot (Brand, model)

Also, where other place should we check out besides the usual Baby City and ToysRUs?

Thank you!
