Hello ladies :D

I remember being in your shoes. The difference now is that I will be having a winter baby instead of summer.
Start with 10 vests and 10 baby grows, 5 pairs of socks, 5beanies, 6 recieving blankets, 2-3 blankets, 6 winter rompers, 4 cheap toweling nappies(helps alot for those spills better than bibs). Newborns stay newborns for a short while. I had friends who had to start 3-6 mths clothing in 6 weeks because they had big babies. Too many newborn clothing is not needed as they pass that stage quickly. I prefer getting minimum amounts then if need be I can add that extra when needed.

Amara born 2 December 2009 Weight 3.30
Kwakhanya born 1 April 2015
weight 3.41kg
Mommy to 2 beautiful boys.

Hi ladies

We all have our own preferences. For me:

1. No fancy outfits for a newborn. It's not comfortable for them, it's not easy putting on and taking off.
2. Don't over dress a baby. They overheat very quickly. So a vest is fine and the baby grow. If it's cooler, wrap them in a blanket. I personally love cellular blankets as they have breathable holes that result in baby not overheating vs the fleecy blankets.

My kids used to sleep in 'onesies'...so there really was little distinction between day wear and night time wear in my house. lol.

It was all about keeping the baby comfortable.

Newborn, depending on size of baby, they may wear for anything for a week to 6 weeks or longer. My daughter was 3.4kgs at birth, went down to 2.9kgs and she wore newborn for 6 weeks.

My son was 3.69 at birth and wore newborn for about a month.

I wouldn't splurge on newborn....I'd say about 6-8 onesies that can be rotated and washed. If your baby very small and will be wearing it longer...then invest in a few more pieces.

I am not a fan of the body vests with the side clips as my paed said when we hold baby, we press those clips into their skin and my daughter had little round marks all over (I felt like the world's worst mom).

You are going to change them often so try to get the onesies where it's easier to just get the leg out and not have to take the whole thing off.

If it's freezing outside I guess you can put socks on under the onesie. But always keep in mind that you do't want them to overheat. I'd rather wrap in a blanket for warmth that I can remove if it gets warmer.

Good luck! You'll get the hang of it, really don't stress about this :)

Great questions!!! Someone help!

I also started making lists of everything we have and everything we still need...when I got to clothes I was also like...ummmmm what do I need? How many of these in each size? How warm must baby dress? I read blankets are a bad idea in the first few months so do you use fluffy onsies? and do you put a cotton onsie under? or vests? do you put pants under it? socks? How often do you change baby?

Hi ladies! I’m pregnant with my first child (due in April) and as I was registering for cute baby things, I realized that I have no idea how to dress a newborn baby. I’m not kidding. I’ve read plenty of books about being pregnant, I’m signed up for my birthing class and I’m reading up on breast-feeding techniques (yes, I’m a nerd). But, I have no idea what you put on the baby after the diaper goes on. And, I’m talking beyond the onesie here. I live in the Johannesburg-area so it’ll be nippy when the bambino arrives. Do I start with a white body suit and work up to some footed jammies? (oh and is there a difference? the babygrows and jammies all look same to me  ) How many of these items do I realistically need? What about vests? Is that under the onesie or only under a top? :S
Please help me move beyond the diaper.
Thank you very much!
