question-circle Gynea appointment at 6 weeks after birth

Hi Nicky

That will be fine Nicky.

If you had a natural birth and had a tear the doc may want to make sure the wound has healed nicely but not necessary if you have no pain etc.

Your gp can handle all your needs as long as your gp does a pap smear and a breast examination. Once you have the all clear on a pap smear you can go every other year.

I personally prefer a gynae as it is quite the norm for them whereas it isn't for a gp but there are also finacial considerations to make.

I'm going to my normal doctor next week , for my 6 week check up. He was the doctor that was at the birth so he said I can come for the check up at his place. Do you think his check up will be that same as a gynae Julz? And is it different if you had natural birth?

Julz and Joli , I'm also terrified of a gynae.I have never ever been to one , but suppose I will have to force myself to go for a lady check up in the near future.

joli normally there is no concern, but it is good to go.

I am beyond gynae verskrik. I am sure every doctor at Panorama has seen me naked including Dylan's paed possibly so not shy at all.

I remeber having to go to a urologist at 18. I was terrified and he was an older man. I had surgery but refused to go back. Silly but yes when you are young it is horrible.

The only thing I hate is good looking gynaes. ;)

I've been a naughty girl and never went for my check ups - I'm scared of gynaes! I know I must go, but the only time I went to a gynae was went I was about 19 and I cried in his rooms!! It was sooooo embarrassing. Then I just had scans with a gynae when I was preggars with Megan but went over to a midwife. I never had any internal checks with either of my pregnancies. I'm still trying to get enough nerve together to go for a check up

Hi there

My doc did a scan to check that everything looked okay. He also checked my scar.

He asked about the breastfeeding and how I was doing emotionally. :side:

Your gynae may discuss birth control with you.

Many women feel it isn't necessary, but it is always good to go for the follow ups. :S
