Thanks ladies for all you responses.

hayley: I have the probiflora and am giving that to him, its his 2nd day on it. Made an appointment with a Chiro for this afternoon AND will get the Bennet Colic stuff afterwards. I'm hoping that in a few days I'll be getting a little sleep and so will my boy.

Oh and everyone has told me and I have read that colic goes away after 3-4 months but the thought of having to live through another 2 months at least of this is enough to make any sain mother burst into tears, sniff sniff. I'm hoping he will be a little better by the end of the week.

Sorry to hear about the colic. My son whom is now 6 months suffered with it and cried non stop for 4 months.

Please bear in mind that colic is a term related to the crying and they do not always cry because they have a sore tummy. Colic may be caused because he has reflux, is over-stimulated or maybe congested.

I went to see Anne Richardson (Author of Baby Sense) as I was in such a state and was getting zero sleep.

She advised the following:
Do a course of Probiflora-paed. 2 sachets a day for 4 days. C-sec babies don't get this probiotic from the birth canal. This good bacteria is essential to kick start your babys digestive system. I also used Reteuri drops and still do. But you must do a course of probiflora.

If you think your baby has reflux then you need to check this and maybe take him to your Paed for advice on medication. We use Losec and occassionally on bad days I give him Gaviscon (2mls).

However our absolute life saver was Bennetts Colic Mixture. You can give them a ml for every Kg he weighs. Give it at every feed if the colic is that bad or give about an hour before the crying starts. I assume in the afternoons at about 5pm. This relaxes them and helps them to fall asleep. Brilliant stuff. I think I would have gone insane without it.

I know it is hard but just hang in there. Colic usually goes away by 3/4 months.

I also used Rescue drops twice daily in his bottles.

Mommy to Ryan almost 3years old and Ben almost 5 months old

Colief worked for us for about 2 weeks. It is has the enzyme lactase that helps break down the lactose in milk.

I took my daughter to the chiropractor and that fixed the colic. Sounds silly -- but it really was the only thing that worked.

To help her bring up wind easier we used telament drops, but they didn't do anything for the colic symptoms.

she is 7 months and I now give her buscopan for infants, when she looks like she has a sore tummy.

The crying is the absolute worst xxx

Hi Sal

Sorry to hear that your little one has colic. My baby was colicky, struggled ALOT with cramps and the only thing that helped was Colix. It's enzymes that helps your LO's digestive system to cope with the digestion of milk, and it breaks down lactose. It's very expensive but worked really well for our baby! We tried almost everything on the market, including Telament, Spasmopep, Bennets Colic Mixture, Bascopan..Colix was the only thing that really helped.

Hope everything just gets better from now onwards..it's really bad to see your LO in pain and there's hardly something you can do about it. O ja, another thing, try to massage his tummy when he gets the cramps, or put a warm beanbag on his tummy. That should help a bit.

Thanks ladies.
I have Telement drops and they dont seem to be helping at all. Perhaps I admistering them incorrectly. I'm breastfeeding so I give them to him in a little water with a dropper before feeding him, correct?

Hi Mia_HannahsMommy, yes I cant believe he is that old already also. He's a big boy and already weighs 5.05kg and is 58cm long, all that weight is killing my arms rocking him all night <sigh>

Hi Sal!!

I can't believe your LB is already here and already 3.5 weeks!!!

Shame, I'm sorry to hear he has colic. Have you tried Telament drops or alternatively Bennets Colic Mixture?

My girls din't have colic as such, but they both screamed whenever they made a poo. The Bennets was the only thing that helped.

My sister in law used it for her daugher who had colic and it helped her aswell.

That's all I can recommend, (other than loads of cuddles and patience :) ). Sorry.
