question-circle Baby development questions

As you said, all babies are different, so if you start reading all the literature, you will just drive yourself crazy !!
These are based on averages for eg Brandon's first tooth made an appearance on his 6 month birthday, Liam's only came along just after his first birthday.
Brandon held his bottle at about 9 months, Liam is 2 years old and still refuses to hold his bedtime bottle.
Brandon walked 2 days before his first birthday, while Liam walked at 8 months.
Brandon talked fluently by the time he was 2 years, yet Liam can only say a handful of words, and you have to listen really carefully to figure them out.

So for now, read up to get a general idea, but really do not stress if it does not happen according to the books - unfortunately the little monkeys can't read - it would make life SO much easier if they could. Then we could just toss the book at them and get them to figure it out themselves

Thanks ladies

I really started feeling clueless, my DH started asking me all these questions last night and I realised I have no idea!

Haha Julz, love that comment. Think that is exactly why B can't/doesn't want to hold her bottle yet. She's so independent in all other aspects that holding her while drinking her bottle is the only time I can hold her and just cuddle and bond.

Not holding a bottle is positive. It means someone has held it for them and cuddled them while feeding.

Okay or propped it up with a pillow, but I like to think dylan was held. x

If your child is lazy like my girls, they won't hold their bottles themselves until they are about 1! And then just as they hold it, I take it away

I have found the Babycentre quite helpful with milestones: Here is the link:

I chatted to my therapist about this issue yesterday.

She told me that you really shouldn't worry about time. They will do things when they are good and ready. Check the general milestones at times to make sure there are no obvious issues, but don't stress.

I must add that any aid in my opinion may help them to achieve milestones sooner, like bumbo seats and walking rings, but may hinder other developmental aspects later on. If babies were meant to sit at 2 months they would.

tummy time is best.
