I couldn't agree more with RM. Try and drink that glass of wine during dinner. It numbs the guilty feeling.

Shame Lata - it sounds exhausting. As you have said once the bad habit starts again you really are back to square one.

I am not sure of how the sleep sense sleep training works, so really can't comment on that technique.

I feel quite strongly about setting up a sleep routine early, because I feel parents really need adult time, and babies need to be in a pink or blue room somewhere sleeping.

My system works along the lines of dinner at about 17h30, play a bit, bath with mom around 18h30 - then dress for bed, and depending on the situation, she gets a warm bottle lying in my bed with me, and then when the bottle is finished or she no longer wants any more, I take her into her room, kiss her good night, pop her in to her cot, close the door and walk away.

The problem with the walking away is that on day 1, it usually results in a 60 - 90 minutes of my-head-is-going-to-explode-right-now-scream session. Baby eventually tires and goes to sleep - but mom is often climbing the walls after the first 15 minutes.

The key is not to go into the room unless the baby is actually dying.

Each day do the same routine, each day the minutes get less. Eventually baby can be put in the cot, door closed and baby goes to sleep.

The issue is consistency, and not going in to sooth baby, or to supply snacks, as that will only encourage baby to cry more as they will know eventually you will come. Even peaking in, or opening the door slightly puts you right back.

Sleep training - as all moms will attest is hard work, and requires a resolve of steel.

However within 5 - 7 days you should (barring any real life threatening issues) have a baby that goes to sleep, and you and DH can be sitting on the couch by 19h30 drinking a glass of wine and having an adult conversation.

I hope you get some sleep soon - I really feel for you. We have all been through it (though that does not make you feel any better right now.)

Marijke my LG's schedule is almost exactly the same as your LO's :)

NOrmally down by 7pm and then only wakes around 2am to drink and then awake again at 6.30am, HOWEVER for the last three nights she has been stiring quite alot between 10pm and 2am, but manages to go back to sleep quite quickly. With all this stirring going on at night, he wakes me so i have been feeling quite tired the last few days :S

Lata don't be despondent. It can be very tiring, but this too shall pass. Hang in there! Try to get to bed early yourself so that you atleast get a few hours in. Good Luck

PS: At 7 months they easily get into bad habits, you need to break it and as J said, it takes atleast 3 nights for the new habit to set it.

YOu may feel like a terrible mom but a tired mom isn't any better.

If you are not comfortable having her cry then I fully understand. It is horrible.

two nights ago I felt the same, but last night we decided enough is enough again and so let him cry a bit and within 5 min he was gone.

It honestly takes 3 days usually for them to understand.

I really don't know hey, you sure she isn't perhaps teething? But the fact that you say its still going on makes me think that this happens a lot.

My LG can still also only go for 2 hours. She gets up at 7am, nap from 9 - 10, nap at 12 - 1 and again 3 - 4 dinner at 6, bath at 6:30 and in bed after a bottle at 7 (so in the evening we stretch her awake time to 3 hours) we also have a no leaving the room after 7pm policy so she knows no matter what she does or how awake she seems to be, we aren't leaving her room oh yes and the other strict thing is no TV after 5pm.

Don't know if that helps you, but perhaps something I mentioned might work for you

Hi Lata

I see that she goes to sleep after 6 at night. Can you maybe push her to stay awake till atleast 7 or 7.30pm? I heard that babies at this age shouldn't nap anytime after 4pm atleast. In this way they are drowsy enough to be put down at 7pm without hassling and stay asleep for atleast 5 hours straight.

With both my son and now my LG i always used to give them a lovely warm barm close to bedtime. I would them rub them out from top to toe which helps to relax the muscles. My LG is 8.5 months and still enjoys the massaging. You must be gentle, but firm at the same time.

Maybe try a little warm bath and gentle massage tonight before bedtime. She might just sleep a bit longer.

Does she sleep in the bed with you or a cot?

@ Nicky - She is 7 months old.

@ Marijke - She is awake in the day for 2 hours max. She sleeps for an hour or hour and a half. she has 3 naps in the day.
Her cries goes into a scream and screech and then she is inconsolable with coughing fits. I cant jsut leave her to cry like that cos she does not stop. We have tried.

@ Julz - we have checked we even put a heater wall panel as her room is very cold. She sleeps ina bababag so i know she is not overdressed. She loves sleeping all covered up.

I just dont know hey. I dont know what else to try. Will i be a bad mom if i left her to cry all by herself? But the thing is she doesnt stop until she falls over from exhaustion and sleeps. I hate seeing her cry.
