Very normal. Connor had/has an orange nose from eating many carrots and pumpkin. Even now when i give it to him he tends to go a bit orange on his nose and the inside of his hands :)

LOL ;)

My Mother was on a mango and carrot diet (well, that is all she ate, I don't think it is a real diet - just one she created  )

Anyway, she went a beautiful orange hue, especially her hands and fingers. She went to the doc and he explained it as Ilse did. The funny thing was, the beta-carontine in the skin is very sensitive to light and without really going out into the sun that summer, she had the BEST tan B) !!!

So maybe your little baba will look very healthy this summer without spending hour in a baby tanning booth ;)

I am also just quoting what was said to my mother, so do ask your doc when you see him again. However, I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Happymumsy - Remember, all orange/yellow foods contain beta-carotene which is the strong pigment that gives the food the colour. This pigment can be responsible for the tinge you see in your little one.

However, the beta-carotene is also the precursor (inactive) form of vitamin A (which is good and essential); however this vitamin is not one of the waterinsoluble ones and must therefore be processed and stored by the liver. When one consumes too much vitamin A, this can build up in the liver and will also be responsible for a yellow/orange tinge of the skin.

Please make sure from your dr if this isn't maybe the case, as it can be harmfull in prolonged cases.

Some extra reading: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta-Carotene

PS: I'm not a dr, I'm a biochemist.

hehehe :) That's cute.

Don't worry, there are NO stupid questions when you're a mommy :)

Firstly, how much orange stuff does she eat?

My nephew's favourite food was carrots, butternut and pumpkin . .. . . all orange, and as a result he had this little orange nose for months - it was very cute.

The paed told my sister it's from all the orange food he's eating.

You can check with the paed, or maybe just be aware of how much "orange" food she is eating. If you try cut it out for a while, just remember I'm not sure how long it takes for the "Orangeness" to get out their systems :)

Admittedly, I haven't heard that they should only get such foods at that age. Hannah is 7 and 1/2 months and been gettin a good mixture of fruit and veg - all colours, since I started her on solids at 4 and 1/2 months.

*Giggle giggle* Here comes a stupid question:

Let me explain a bit first, being a 1st time mom, I like to research everything and gather info... alot.. so i read in one the baby magazines a while ago that babies up to 8 or 9 months I can't remember, should only have orange foods like butternut, gemsquash, potatoes, rice carrots etc. We use these and make a puree for my LG. She has been having this since she was 4.5 months, now she is 8 months.

Her fingers seem to have an orange tinge, and the underside of her hands... Perhaps the skin on her face a little but less noticable. Is this because of the food or a cause for concern, perhaps something more serious? She had jaundice on day 3 -- surely it can't come back?

Have tried giving her purity veggies, but she wont eat them - only the purity fruit which she loves.

Should I be giving her other veggies? And meat?

Your advice and comment would help ALOT! As I said before -- first time mom..
