My baby girl suffered from reflux up until about 7 months.

We gave her NAN AR which worked brilliantly and she was on losec as well. We stopped the meds at 7 months and have had no issues since. She also is on a normal No 2 formula now.

Please speak to your paed about gaviscon before giving it to a baby. Every Dr that I have spoken to about it is very anti it.

Good luck. It's hard but they do outgrow it. The losec helps alot.

Solids at 3 months would be the absolute last resort. I would try the nestergel but it's very expensive. Novalac AR is the antireflux milk that most doctors and clinic sisters would recommend. My Son used this and it works really well. Even NAN HA gave him reflux. Nan also has an Anti-Reflux milk called NAN AR. First try this milk because Reflux can persit till after 6 months regardless. Starting solids will just upset your babies digestion and cause other issues like allergies. I can't beleive a peadiatrician would recommend that at all. WOW, who is your doctor?

Hi Nozzy, it is never easy to have a baby suffering from reflux. My daughter had reflux and it only started easing up at about 8 months. My daughter was on Nan AR (Anti-reflux) formula as well as Losec. The Losec is to ease the burn. These 2 helped a lot.
Some other things that you need to do as well is:
* Keep you Lo upright for a least 30 minutes after a feed.
* Don't burp them too hard and if they haven't burped after about 5 minutes leave it, it will probably come out by itself later.
* Try to give less milk more frequently.

Thank you so much for the advise Soetlief. I will start using the Nestargel tomorrow and see how it treats her.
How is your little girl? How long has she been on Nestargel?

I will google as much info as I possibly can in order to learn more about raising a Reflux baby.

Hi Nozzy,

First of all, sorry to hear that you have a reflux baby. Both my children had Reflux, and the road ahead is not easy, but managable with keeping the "symptoms" under control.

If I were you I would stay with the Nan HA & use the Nestargel. My little girl is currently on Nan HA, and we thicken it with Nestargel. If she is doing good on the HA rather stay on it. The HA milk has gone through different stages, making it less "acidy".

A few other things to keep in mind with a Reflux baby:

Dont give Rooibos - EVER!!
Dont give Yogurt - until about 2years of age
Give them Twinnings Chamomile tea or Water
You can also give baby Gaviscon (1ml - 2.5ml) (Anisseed flavour)
Your Paed can also prescribe Losec Mups which helps braking down the Acid in baby's stomach.

Treat the mamma with tender loving care!!

Hi moomies,

My daughter has had a few episodes where she vomits and it looks like she is cchoking on it and some of it comes out her nose.

I called her paediatrician earlier and he said that she has reflux. He suggested I buy her "Thick and easy". The powder is used to thicken her milk. He also suggested "Nestagel".

Alternatively I could change her formula, she is currently on Nan, to Nan HA.

He said that if this persists at 3months I could introduce her to solids.

Whoelse has had the same problem and how did you handle it?
