Weight of a 3 month old???

My Lwandle was a fairly big baby and now at almost 11 months he weighs 12.5 kg...I am watching him like a hawk there has been concerns with obesity in children so he better watch out for mommy to starve him if he doesn't shag-off his weight.

Giggles...as most moms have said it, babies are different. A big baby doesn't always mean healthy baby. So as long as you and Dr know your LO is health there is no need to stress

My lg was 2.6kg at birth and now weighs 4.96 kg at 12 weeks.

Over the next 30 years it is gonna be one of your biggest worries - is my child eating enough / too much, is he too thin / fat, are his meals nutritious etc.

You will drive yourself crazy worrying about it, so as long as weight gain is consistant and there is no drastic drop, you really do not need to worry.
And remember there will be times when the weight gain seems to stop, and then it will bounce up again (around 12 -18 months), so don't worry there either.

As for solids, try to keep it off for as long as possible, and def not before 4 months. World Health Org recommends to only start at 6 months, before that the digestive system is not really mature enough.
Signs that he is ready - must have doubled (at least) birth weight, good head / neck control, drinks 1000ml (or more) milk in a 24 hour period. there are more, but off hand I cannot remember - maybe on of the other moms can assist there.

Let me tell you something, as long baba is healthy then there's nothing to worry about...My baba was 3.1 @ birth, 6kg @ 6 weeks checkup, 7.1kg @ 10 weeks. Babies are not the same!!!!! I'm giving my baba breastmilk only at this stage. The thing is I used to drink a lot of orange juice say 2Litre in 2days when I was pregnant coz i heard it makes baba's bones strong. Even now he's soooo heavy, we can't hold him for morethan 5minutes standing.

People should just stop comparing babies, it's ridiculous!!!!! give your baby all the love, that's the most important thing!

Hi Giggles, don't worry about it, as everyone says, it is normal for her birth weight.

Emma was 3,7kg at birth and weighed 6,3kg at her 12 week checkup - so she is a big baby. But even I worry that she is maybe too big - so I guess it goes both ways - LOL!

I think she must be weighing almost 7kgs now, so I'll definitely consider starting solids at 4 months (I'm currently breastfeeding excl), but I will first check with my paed at her 4 month visit, because weight is just one of the aspects you should consider. Others are can she hold her head up easily, does she need to drink closer together than before, etc. I don't have the exact list with me now.

She is still very small compared to other babies her age and what baffles me is that both DH and I are quite tall and hefty people, and she is so tiny.
At her 14 week shots, she only picked up 500g in a months time, So I was seriously worried, but the Sr says as long as she picked up even if ots just a bit, she is okay. It would be a problem if she lost weight instead.
