file not staying signed in

ok, there are things we can try but have to be careful.

Quick explanation - to stay signed into a website uses a trick called "sessions". Basically once you log in your browser carries a token or session info which it passes back whilst you navigate to keep you signed in.

There are other ways we can use sessions such as using a table in the database to keep track of sessions or store it in the servers memory. Neither of these I want to use if we can avoid it as they both put stress on the server and I don't want the host complaining, we can test them though if we aren't coming right with the local session info instead. I'll chat with my misses to get a better feel for the problem, will be quicker then trying to get full descriptions this way. Strange thing is the sessions are definitely working as whilst I'm typing this I'm opening random tabs on the site and staying logged in so it might be a timeout feature or something else.

Will get back to you guys.

On a side note - gloeiwurmpie - IE not logging in is very weird...what error does it give? Have just tested with FF, chrome and IE and authentication is working - do you have stored password or something for IE? If you don't use it for anything try going into its properties and reset it (can walk you through how if you want).

no problem, thanks for more info.

Tested the link this side and was fine (I use Chrome personally).

I have a very irritating request (at least I would find it irritating). Can you use (shudder) Internet Explorer, log into moomie and try randomly browsing around, test the recent topics button etc. please.

Tell me if the same happens.

thanks!

Sorry, yes, it is windows 7, 64 bit.

When I navigate away from a thread by clicking on "recent topics" I have to sign in again. It is a real pain in the arse!

Thanks for helping me!

Hi Matt,

I use Firefox (and the latest windows I think?). I did clear my history now and made sure that cookies are enabled.
Now it works when I move from page 1 to page 2, but when I "refresh" on my browser bar I log out again.

Any ideas?

Morning ladies,

At first glance it doesn't appear to be server side (I won't rule it out of course), I have tested on 2 different PCs and net connections and stay logged in. Some things to check - what browser are you using, what operating system? Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? Have any security updates been done recently, do you go through a company proxy server etc. If you need me to explain any of these I would be happy to help, just need to identify the environment the site is being viewed from as when it comes to things such as login sessions there are many things that can distrupt it.
