Adoption

Reluctant mom, I have contacted every person I could get hold of and every where I hear the same thing - no white babies. Eloise and Sunette from Procare just said sorry the list is closed...

I used to be in the fertility forum, but with no luck after 8 years we are now trying to adopt. We also contacted procare, but their list for white babies are closed and so is every other private agency's. It is heart warming to here success stories, but from where I am now, I want to just give up (and that is no option *cry*)

I don't even know if I am in the right forum

Please can anyone perhaps guide me?

I am so glad there are so many good if not great stories here about adoption.

Every story I have heard - and I have probably only heard 8 personally (so I may be generalising) it appears that the adoption process, though paper work intensive, is actually reasonably quick and people seem to find happiness at the end of it.

I wonder why a perception exists of it being so difficult, and that you have to wait for years, which deters many or some prospective parents.


<I watched Idols last night, the one recorded in Durban, we PVR things so I have no idea when it actually comes on tv, and that 16 year old girl came on and sang- and she was phenomenal. She as adopted at 4 weeks old and she was absolutely incredible, and I think it was Gareth who said 'you must have been a gift from the heavens' or something similiar ...... total snot and crying moment!>

My friends have recently adopted their 3rd baby through pro care. The were so pleased with them, I think they also went through eloise. All 3 adoptions happened in record time almost giving them no time to prepare for the baby as they happened so fast so it's not always a longe wait.

Joyce - My sister chose to talk to Gabi (my niece) about her "tummy mummy" from a very early age so she knows that she has a "tummy mummy" and she knows her name, etc. THey sometimes unpack her box with her profile in, clothes she came home in, first photo in hospital etc. She believes it will make it easier than to just blurt it out to her one day that she is adopted. She will probably do the same with Nicholas as soon as he understands a bit better. She also has a very close friend with 2 adopted kids as well and the children are all very close so Gabi knows that they also have tummy mummys and real mummy's like her and her brother does. Gabi was at Ubuntu Safe House during her 60 day period, so Carmen wants to take her to volunteer there as soon as she is old enough. Nicholas was with a kangaroo mom and her and my sister are still in close contact - she was also at his bday party last year.

In answer to your question - it is more than they could ever have hoped for - those kids are A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E!!! And if you saw them you would NEVER believe that they are not actually blood brother and sister - they look exactly the same!!!

I am always interested to hear how it is going with people with adopted kids. Is it everything they hoped for? No problems and issues with the fact that they are adopted? Ours is obviously still very much baby, so it is too early for us to say. Thanks J-xx

Welcome Joyce - So nice to have you here. My sister also went through Procare. She has a 4.5 year old girl and a 1.5 year old boy. I think she only dealt with Eloize and yes, she is LOVELY!
